The newly restored Tal Katora

Jaipur beat is coming up with a new story that talks about our history, our mistakes with a learning curve- to value our heritage.
The story is about Tal Katora. Why Katora? As it looks like a floating cup so it got the name –Tal Katora (Water Body +Cup Shape). Many of us remember spending time at Talkatora and Pondric garden with our grandparents. Back then when it was in a good condition.

And here goes the story…Once the Pride of walled Jaipur City ‘Tal Katora’ which is situated just behind the Jai Niwas garden, fenced on three sides by broad embankments and on the fourth by Badal Mahal of City palace, that has lost its charm for years has now regained its glory.

Talkatora lake Jaipur

Earlier it was known to be flooded with alligators that were regularly fed at the Darbar expenses (Paid by Jaipur Royalty) but with the passage of time it became nothing but a barren land. With the advancement of urban development and the starting of piped water supply, vanished the lure of the water structure which was the life line for the city dwellers and soon it was used as a major dumping ground for the cities solid waste.
I remember visiting the place some 15 years back and I recall it just as the name (Garbage Dump Ground) with bad odor that made it difficult to even stand for a moment.

But we learned from our mistakes and after almost 22 years the place restored its splendor with the help of volunteers and Jaipur municipality.

Now there is water in the tank, people living in neighboring area have blocked their household drainage to stop the filth flowing in, entirely changing the face so much that  when someone comes across the splendid Talkatora Garden he is sure to feel amazed by the overwhelming beauty which was lost for years.

Newly restored and developed Tal Katora and Pondrik Uddyan has now become a wonderful place. With colorful fountains reaching a height of 70 ft., array of flowering pots is surely adding to the terrific beauty of the abode. People of all ages are visiting this place now and enjoying hot summer evenings sitting over the lush green grass next to the soothing fountains.

So, whether as a tourist or a local, the pleasant sight of these pressure fountains and Talkatora lake with boating is encouraging enough to make one trip 😀 Apart from admiring the fountains and illuminated trees, one can also get the flavor of ‘Chuski- Barf Ka Gola’ and big sized Papodams sold by the vendors outside the park.

Mornings at Central Park

One can’t actually think of anything that is more enjoyable & refreshing than a nice early morning walk when the city is just beginning to wake up. We all know morning walk is good for us and that we should go for it but somehow it is easier to lay in bed. It took longer to actually get out of bed and do it but once you do, you felt simply astounding and motivated to keep it up in order to maintain the feeling of being so optimistic and alive.

Central Park Jaipur

And to actually keep you enthused, an excellent place for walk is must. Being a Jaipurite, one knows well about an exceptional place to walk that is Central Park, which is the most popular park among walkers & Joggers, located almost in the centre of the city. As a walker I was impressed with Central park’s beauty and size, making it a wonderful place to enjoy a bit of relaxation where people can spend hours in the enthralling and imposing atmosphere. The beautiful 4.5 km walkway of the park fills one with rejuvenating freshness escaping the din & chaos of the surrounding city. A wonderful designed park, having intensely manicured grass land. Its vast stretch of seasonal plants with their enigmatic aroma makes any visitor spellbound.

Central Park Jaipur

After an interesting strenuous walk, all those walkers who are coming to the park treat themselves & rehydrate with fresh & healthy juices like those of wheat grass, aloe Vera, bitter guard, guard tomato juices, feeling replenished again.
So get your butt up, wash your face, dress up, wear comfy shoes come & explore all that nature has to offer early in the morning.

Launch of Bulgari’s Indian Garnet at Hotel Rambagh Palace in Jaipur

The historic hotel and the former residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur played host to an event organised by the Italian luxury brand Bulgari. The occasion was the launch of Bulgari’s latest Omnia range of fragrances, aptly named Indian Garnet.

Media members from all over the world were flown to Jaipur and the fragrance introduction was held on the sprawling garden grounds of the Rambagh Palace. As the morning sun was out in full force, guests were sheltered by colourful umbrellas in varied shapes and hues.

It took the Spanish master perfumer Alberto Morillas one and a half years to create this fragrance! To create an instant evocation of the Indian sub-continent, India, for its distinct orange shades of sunsets and other panorama, had to be Bulgari’s launch place, but Jaipur as the destination city was chosen because Pink City is the place where Bulgari sources for the gems used in its jewellery.

Morillas was inspired by strong elements such as tuberose and saffron, both emblematic of India. Each of the accord reminded him of the colour of a sari. He said, ‘The Omnia Indian Garnet woman resembles a queen. She embodies a form of femininity, serenity, nobility and elegance which one encounters everywhere in India, from the most humble woman to the Maharani’.

Summer Mango Mania

Mangoes Jaipur summer

Summer is that blessed time of the year when fruit-markets and streets sell tempting juicy fruit mangoes in bundles. No other fruit tastes as delicious as sweet, chilled mango tastes. One can relish it for breakfast, lunch and dinner whether it is ripe or raw or cut it into diamond pieces. What to say about aam-papad and mango pickles..yum yum !! Pulp and juice of mango are great to have during summer months as they provide instant energy. Unquestionably, the fruit is a terrific gift to us.

Mango-kheer, mango rabdi or mango ras-malai for dessert, and it isn’t so difficult to find joy after all! Make mango fruit-creams at home to treat yourself with pure summer bliss. Fresh-mango icecreams are the best thing to happen to caramel waffle cones. Natural’s ice-cream parlour at Chomu circle in Jaipur, serves it the best in town. A secret trick to make your mango-shake yummilicious is to add a scoop of vanilla ice-cream to it.

There are many reasons to like the mango. To tell you, it is one of the most exploited fruits for flavor, food, fragrance, juice and color. For its divine and pleasant flavor, it is added in ice-creams, fruit juices, teas, wines, soft drinks, cosmetics, confectionary items, etc.

An evening at Padao, Nahargarh !!

It was a Saturday evening and with no planning in mind, we, Jaipur Beat, decided to head to Nahargarh. Jaipurites are always in love with this place, particularly when the weather is perfect; the place gives a remarkable look of Jaipur especially during night.

Nahargarh, jaipur

Before we indulge into real pleasure, let’s have a brief intro about the Fort – Established by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1734, Nahargarh is set on Aravali mountain ranges and was once a strong defense ring, creating a tough protection for the city along with other two forts of Amer and Jaigarh. The place became known as Nahargarh, which means “adobe of tigers’.

There is lots of history attached to the abode, incredible design, awe inspiring planning, but what catches an eye the most is the awesome view of the city that fort offers.

Nahargarh, Jaipur Beat

With no time wasted we started going uphill through the zig zag road. While climbing we managed to get the view of Mansagar Lake, which was absolutely spectacular and we knew that much more is in store once we reach at the top.

So we decided to explore Padao restaurant.

It took just 10 minutes to reach the highest point, which happens to be a restaurant called ‘Padao’- this is an open-air restaurant at the top, gives awesome view and also sells drinks around sunset plus veg and non-veg snacks.

Padao restaurant at Nahargarh, Jaipur Beat

As soon as we entered –we were charged with Rs 50/- per head as an entry fee that includes free tea /coffee/coldrink.. If you ask, it’s not bad actually. We parked our car and the first thing we were up to was to get a quick look at the sparkling Jaipur city from the top and pin pointing few of the places that were easily recognizable from the highest point like TalKatora, Birla Mandir, Moti Sons building and lot many.

It was simply amazing, many people were relaxing on the fort’s walls overlooking the city while some were seriously having the time of their own under the sky with no one around to disturb.

From up there the city seems so quiet and peaceful; no doubt it took seconds for us to decide to spendsome more time there.  So we served ourselves free-cold drink (Self Service) and ordered Beer, Pakoras and Chilly Paneer. The sitting area at Padao is all-open with wrought iron chairs and tables. They serve you, but don’t guarantee the place for sitting. Better keep your eyes open and look for empty chairs on your own, especially when it’s a weekend. And let your luck play the charm 😉

Padao, Nahargarh, JaipurBeat

It took a few minutes for us to locate and collect our chairs and finally got our seats at the corner of the top Burj. Our day was made sitting, eating and enjoying with friends.

Some of you may not be aware that several scenes from the movie Rang De Basanti were filmed here.

The place is a must visit for all. We suggest you a few safety tips-

* Avoid going alone and always try going in a group.

* Drive carefully after having drinks, as the road to Nahargarh is prone to many accidents.

* Don’t forget to take your camera along for some amazing photography, as there is no other place in the city that gives such an exotic view of Jaipur.

Restaurant Review: Mamu’s Infusion

Jaipur Beat Mamu's Infusion
One of our colleague’s friends at Jaipur beat was visiting Jaipur, and all of us wanted to meet him over coffee and food. As per the original plan we were to eat Italian but that didn’t happen as the restaurant was closed, and then while driving around we spotted Mamu’s Infusion. We had been reading about it in local newspapers, and how it was the restaurant version of the old-and-famous ‘Mamu’s’ shop at C-scheme.

We opened the doors to a Victorian-looking cafe at about 8:00 pm and occupied a table that seated the four of us there. The cafe has colours, some quirks in its furniture, a book-shelf and beautiful chandeliers. You can’t visit a Mamu’s joint and not order cold-coffee, and so we ordered cafe-frappes for all of us. Jalapeno poppers and pink pasta for food, on the basis of suggestions from the staff there, after which we started our chit-chat session.

Just then, families started pouring in and with all the kids at their excited best, we had to adjust our volumes and ears in order to be able to carry on with our conversation. Our guess is, it is a place suited for friends and family, you just have to stick to the usual hanging-out timings of each.
Our tall foil-covered glasses of coffee arrived and they looked really nice; it tasted just as nice as it looked. The jalapeno poppers and the pink pasta were good too. The place also recommends their whole-wheat pizza and pasta for the health-conscious and a new-dish called papad-platter for the papad lovers.

Jaipur Beat Mamu's Infusion Review

We felt too full and for the first-time decided to skip the dessert; but as luck would have it, the owner of Infusion offered us to try their very-signature mud-pie, and that too as a complementary dessert! No matter how much one grows up, the charm of complementary stuff never wears off 😉 It was indeed a unique and tempting looking dessert, where the brownie was filled in a small-pot like mud! And a small water-dispenser containing chocolate-sauce came along with it. We couldn’t resist and finished every last speck of it!

All in all, a very new and refreshing hang-out for Jaipur with a decently-priced menu, such that you would want to go there again!
