Gharaz- A Contemporary Jewelry Brand From Jaipur Turns 3

With various markets like Johari bazaar, Haldion ka raasta and many other markets which are solely dedicated to jewelry. It’s not uncommon for another brand to open up in Jaipur. The pink city tops the lists of wedding shopping destinations in the country and the jewelry shops in the city have majorly contributed to that. Be it gold, silver, lac, thewa, meenakari and kundan the options and varieties are innumerable and this is another reason why the name Jaipur is synonymous with jewelry shopping in the whole world.

Among many small shops and big stores Gharaz is a brand started by Vishakha Agarwal who comes from a family involved in the jewelry trade and is the fourth generation of her family in this industry.

The budding young designer hosted an event called “GHARAZ TURNS 3” at cafe Lazy Mojo to celebrate the successful completion of 3 years of her brand which was started in 2014.

JAIPUR BEAT attended the event and got a chance to see her exquisite collection of contemporary and modern jewelry which has a touch of tradition. Her work involves a fusion of different styles which was clearly visible in her jewelry and jewelry customization as per choice of the client. The event was co-hosted by her sister Akshya Agarwal who handles her own home decor brand called the Bhrti home decor and is also the director of Avyaya Welfare Foundation, an NGO promoting skill based development. The fashion aspect was introduced by Nidhi Agarwal, their youngest sister. The sister trio is very creative and wishes to show the culture and rich heritage of Jaipur in all their respective fields. the event was also attended by Mrs. Archana Surana, director of ARCH Academy, who appreciated the work of Vishakha who is the alumnus of ARCH academy.

Vishakha’s pieces are simple, classy, elegant and cost effective. She uses nickel free gold plating as it has a longer life and does not cause skin allergies. Other than diamond, silver she also uses semi precious jewels with mostly pastel shades for her designs as they can be worn on an everyday basis and  for parties and weddings and also adds a cool, casual vibe to any look.

What stands out in her collection is that all the pieces are very light weight contrary to the appearance that they give. The neck pieces look heavy but once after trying those on you won’t feel the weight. The jewelry is designed keeping in mind the modern women and as an addition to the personality of the person wearing it. The most unique designs are the ones which are made up of vintage coins with inscription on them. “Rather than buying something for a special occasion which you won’t wear again, it’s better to invest in pieces which you can wear in your office, for a party and even in weddings”, quoted Vishakha, designer of Gharaz.
