The Jaipur city, as we know, houses an enormous amount of food joints. However there are certain food joints, which are not only the best when it comes to getting some relief in this scorching heat, but they also have a special place in our hearts as we have many memories attached to these places. Yes, we are talking about the age old ice cream parlours and famous kulfi shops in the walled city that have always been our go to place in summers ! Majority of these shops are decades old and are famous because they have been serving the same taste since years. They are known for literally serving happiness and smiles to people of all ages on sticks in terms of Kulfi – the traditional Indian ice cream and also adding a refreshing dose of juices, shakes and sharbats in our lives in the summer. So here is a list of ‘Thanda’ in Walled City, which you must visit as soon as you finish reading this.
1.) Guddu ice cream parlour
This shop on the corner of the street has been serving Jaipurites for four decades now. Even if you go here in the winter months the number of customers will be the same at the original ice cream parlour of the city.
Venue: Shop 88A, near Ajmeri gate, Nehru bazaar, Yadgar gali, MI road
2.) Gulnar
Before all these juice bars opened up in Jaipur this small shop in the heart of the walled city was the first where the people of Jaipur would go for refreshing juices. The shop has 4 more outlets sprawled in different areas. But the real magic is sitting in this small little shop in Kishanpole bazaar and sipping fresh juices which will definitely revitalize your long summer days.
Venue: Shop no 278, Kishanpole bazaar3.) Kake ki dukan
This was the actual hangout place for all the young people in the walled city before restaurants and cafes took over. They serve mouth watering “hing ki kachori” which is definitely spicy. To balance out the spicie, the cooling milk rose is the perfect complement here.
Venue: Nehru bazaar4.) Lassiwala
There are 2-3 Lassiwalas on MI road itself, but this is the original lassiwala which was established in 1944. Even though one glass of this lassi is quite filling you will be asking for more of this sweet curd based drink. Famous among tourists as well you will never find this shop empty.
Venue: Shop no.312, MI road
5.) Mahaveer rabri bhandar
One of the oldest places in Jaipur this rabri bhandar is famous not only for its rabri but also for a range of other sweets. You can also skip your dinner and also try the aloo pyaaz ki sabzi with bejad ki roti here.
Venue: Near Goaplpura puliya, opposite HP petrol pump, Tonk road.6.) New Dilbahar sharbat
Established in 1949, this shop in Choti Chaupar serves a variety of sharbats along with Rajasthani staple snacks like kachori and mirchi vada. It might have been through a little rough patch because of the construction of metro but it does not affect the taste of the sharbats here.
Venue: 379, Choti Chaupar
7.) Original Ramchandra kulfi bhandar
This shop has been bringing smile on the faces of Jaipurites for 17 years now. The kesar pista kulfi here is probably the best you can find in the city. To comply with the growing demands of different shakes, they have updated their menu and now are also serving oreo shake. Go on an empty stomach here because the list of things that you should try here is long, including the faluda and papaya shake.
Venue: 222, Badi Chaupadh, near Hawa Mahal, Tripoliya bazaar8.) Pandit kulfi
Even though this shop is now nearly 40 years old they are trying to improvise traditional flavors. Pandit kulfi is the perfect example of an old place attempting out new things with kulfi flavours like paan and mango.
Venue: 110-111, Hawa Mahal road9.) Panna lal kulfi wale
This little green colored shop is famous for its matka kulfi and varieties of rabri. What will definitely catch your attention here is the eccentric names of dishes like “shahi rabri” and “baadshahi rabri”!
Venue: 1242, Gopal Ji ka rasta, Johri bazaar10.) Ramchandra kulfi bhandhar
Another Ramchandra kulfi bhandhar on the list, this one is a kiosk near Ajmeri gate. The small size of this place doesn’t compromise at all with the quality and taste of the kulfis served here. If you stay far from the walled city you can also take dabas of this famous kulfi home and return them later. 🙂
Venue: Ajmer Road
Now that you have the list, get ready to go and enjoy some amazing summer delicacies. 🙂
