Gharaz- A Contemporary Jewelry Brand From Jaipur Turns 3

With various markets like Johari bazaar, Haldion ka raasta and many other markets which are solely dedicated to jewelry. It’s not uncommon for another brand to open up in Jaipur. The pink city tops the lists of wedding shopping destinations in the country and the jewelry shops in the city have majorly contributed to that. Be it gold, silver, lac, thewa, meenakari and kundan the options and varieties are innumerable and this is another reason why the name Jaipur is synonymous with jewelry shopping in the whole world.

Among many small shops and big stores Gharaz is a brand started by Vishakha Agarwal who comes from a family involved in the jewelry trade and is the fourth generation of her family in this industry.

The budding young designer hosted an event called “GHARAZ TURNS 3” at cafe Lazy Mojo to celebrate the successful completion of 3 years of her brand which was started in 2014.

JAIPUR BEAT attended the event and got a chance to see her exquisite collection of contemporary and modern jewelry which has a touch of tradition. Her work involves a fusion of different styles which was clearly visible in her jewelry and jewelry customization as per choice of the client. The event was co-hosted by her sister Akshya Agarwal who handles her own home decor brand called the Bhrti home decor and is also the director of Avyaya Welfare Foundation, an NGO promoting skill based development. The fashion aspect was introduced by Nidhi Agarwal, their youngest sister. The sister trio is very creative and wishes to show the culture and rich heritage of Jaipur in all their respective fields. the event was also attended by Mrs. Archana Surana, director of ARCH Academy, who appreciated the work of Vishakha who is the alumnus of ARCH academy.

IMG_8032

Vishakha’s pieces are simple, classy, elegant and cost effective. She uses nickel free gold plating as it has a longer life and does not cause skin allergies. Other than diamond, silver she also uses semi precious jewels with mostly pastel shades for her designs as they can be worn on an everyday basis and  for parties and weddings and also adds a cool, casual vibe to any look.

What stands out in her collection is that all the pieces are very light weight contrary to the appearance that they give. The neck pieces look heavy but once after trying those on you won’t feel the weight. The jewelry is designed keeping in mind the modern women and as an addition to the personality of the person wearing it. The most unique designs are the ones which are made up of vintage coins with inscription on them. “Rather than buying something for a special occasion which you won’t wear again, it’s better to invest in pieces which you can wear in your office, for a party and even in weddings”, quoted Vishakha, designer of Gharaz.

IMG_8031

Her collections are handcrafted by local Jaipur artisans and involve a lot of traditional carving on jewelry. Her upcoming collections will involve the use of wood and brass.

The label has bought in a new aspect to jewelry shopping in the city with online store which provides shipping all across the world.  The designer is working very hard to complement traditional jewelry from Jaipur with her own brand which stands to create modern looks for women of every age. She wishes to change the image of Jaipur jewelry from traditional to modern with a touch of elegance. She is also creating a balance and incorporates the rich culture of Rajasthan in her modern pieces. Her collection is also available at around 30 different online portals.

IMG_8029.JPG

She has a retail store along with her sister who is working in home decor at 72, Vishnu garden colony, opp. Airport boundary main Tonk road, Jaipur. You can also shop from their website which is www.gharaz.com and www.bhrtiimpex.in respectively and their Instagram handles which are @gharazbyvishakha and @bhrtihomedecor.

These young Jaipurites are working to create a different shopping experience in the fields of jewelry and home decor for everyone in the city and also in other parts of the country.

21 Photographs By A Jaipur Man Who Captured The Beauty of Himalayas With An iPhone

In a world where we are so engrossed in technology and the addictions related to it, we often forget to look up and see the beauty that lies there in front of our eyes – raw and unfiltered.

But here is a man who hails from Jaipur, is a passionate traveller, active social media enthusiast and a creative photographer who has travelled to more than 10 countries and has been clicking Rajasthan with a different perspective for over 10 years – Gaurav Hajela*. His photographs have been published by the leading websites, newspapers & magazines and he knows Rajasthan like the back of his hand. With two editions of coffee table book ‘Soul Of Rajasthan’ under his belt, his thirst for seeing and capturing new horizons refuses to stop. This time, he desired to explore the Himalayas and experimented with clicking these mesmerizing vistas of Himachal Pradesh with his iPhone.

Jaipur Beat is excited to take you on a road journey from Chandigarh-Rampur-Sangla-Chitkul-Kalpa-Fagu and back to Chandigarh through this beautiful Photo Blog, where India just kept getting more beautiful at each turn.

Be ready to skip the beat when you get to see beauty all around surrounding the nature 🙂

On the way from Shimla to Kinnaur, there is a small town called Rampur. And this is what the journey offers you 🙂

Rampur - Gaurav Hajela

The journey to Sangla (situated in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh at a height of 9000 feet) is no cakewalk. Hence the umbrella rocks are here on NH 22 highway to protect the roads and vehicles which look like some tiny kids crossing a tunnel !

Diggi Palace – Sleek Blend of Royal & Contemporary in the Heart of Jaipur

Now famously known for hosting the world’s biggest literature festival – Jaipur Literature festival aka JLF, Hotel Diggi Palace is a resplendent palace turned into hotel in the heart of pink city. Built by Shri Thakur Saheb Pratap Singh Ji Diggi of the then ruling family of Diggi principality in 1860, this 19th century palace blends the best of royal Indian hospitality with European ‘art de vivre’.
Situated on 18 acres of land, Diggi Palace is one of Rajasthan’s most loved luxury accommodation options, which has also played host to a lot of lavish & royal weddings in town. Going back a little in history, when Sawai Jai Singh Ji built the city of Jaipur, the town was built in 9 squares. Diggi Palace earlier occupied the space where now resides the Albert Hall Museum, but was later shifted to its present location. The palace was partly converted into a heritage hotel in 1991 by the present owners Thakur Ram Pratap Singh Diggi and his wife, Jyotika Kumari Diggi, who still live in the palace and also run the hotel.

The palace is basically a garden estate that opens up through a courtyard that’s surrounded by an array of ‘durbars’ (banquet halls), fresco painted ‘deodis’ (doorways), ‘havelis’ (palace wings) and lush green gardens on all sides. Following the philosophy of ‘Life is a fete’ , Diggi Palace is always coming up with something innovative, regal and fun to keep you hooked to its magnetic charm 🙂 From the largest literature festival and fashion extravaganzas to grand weddings & culinary journeys, Diggi Palace has a thousand ways to regale you.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The gate right in front of the courtyard opens to the Durbar Hall that is painted in shades of Wedgwood & Jodhpur blues along with pista-green colored walls. The archways and stained glass windows lead to a hall which houses the paintings of the royals of Jaipur. While walking around the palace, the only sounds you can hear are the people whispering to each other and birds unabashedly chit chatting in their shrill voices perhaps because it’s a post-nap chat session for them 😉

Through the shaded walkways when you enter the garden area, you could see a peacock ambling just like you, except that it looks like it belongs to the Palace with its own shade of blues and greens blending in the plush architecture.
The palace comes alive in the evening with the Front Lawn dimly lit and the peacock which was strolling in the garden some time back, is now perched high on the tree, only his silhouette to be seen in the sunset skies.
The soft breeze in the expansive lawn draws you towards it and smoothly merges in the aroma of Rajasthani spices being cooked in the kitchens of Baradari Mahal – A Gourmet Restaurant at Diggi Palace.

The authentic and delectable recipes of Rajasthan have been meticulously curated over the years by the Diggi family and crafted with perfection at The Baradari Mahal. The dining experience is a bliss as it tears you away from the bustling scene of the city and treats your buds with a royal taste that takes you closer to the land of Rajasthan.
