Jaipur’s All New Food Truck Dadi’s Asanjo

Come winters, and our appetite for street food shoots up faster than the oil prices. Succumbing to a constant craving for a hot street side treat, Jaipur Beat spotted a shiny attractive blue truck right opposite the A.C. Market and fresh aroma of Pav Bhaji which pulled us towards Dadi’s Asanjo. You must be wondering what Asanjo means in he first place ? Asanjo means Apna in Sindhi.

As unique as the name, the dishes that they serve are exquisite too. You must have had Pav Bhaji several times in your life, but you will find yourself falling for the firangi pav bhaji where Indian taste meets international flavor. If you are a cheese fan, their Cheese Burst Pav Bhaji will take you to the little house of cheese, except with a lovely smell 😉

The specialty, OTC Vada Pav, was filled with onions and lots of tomato and capsicum, which was delicious to gorge on along with chutney and green chillies.

Dadi’s Asanjo offers about 11 types of Pav Bhaji and 7 types of Vada Pav to satiate your evening hunger pangs especially for the ones who are cuckoo about spicy food ! It opens at 7 p.m. in the evening when a large crowd pours of students and children pour in along with family and friends.

“Jaipur has been overexposed to café culture now, so we thought why not try our hand on a food truck that too in the major hub of the city Raja Park.”, said Divesh, the owner of the food truck who along with his 6 companions decided to start this food truck.

Must dishes to try – Mushroom tikka masala pav bhaji, OTC Vada Pav, Cheese Burst Pav Bhaji

Highlight – Serves 4 pieces of Pav which are enough for 2 people and a good quantity of bhaji.

Jaipur Beat gives this place – 4/5 Beats

“Thodi Thodi bhook lagi hai?  Dadi’s Asnajo haina” an evening to spend with your loved ones without creating a hole in your pocket, head towards Raja Park and gorge on where Bombay meets Jaipur ! Wait for more till they add new surprising elements to their menu, till then happy eating.

Meet Jaipur Girl Ankita- Runner Up at Miss India Wheelchair 2017

“Don’t’ die before your death”- Ankita Sharma

Holding this strong belief is the story of a young girl who did not lose her willpower and motivation and is living her dreams now, Ankita Sharma. A jaipurite who has recently won as a runner up in Miss India Wheelchair 2017, is that sunlight which never fails to give a smile on anybody’s face. Injured herself in 9th Standard while attending her cousin’s reception, a tree branch fell on her legs and she paralyzed her lower body. And that was the beginning of her time on a wheelchair.

In conversation with Jaipur Beat, Ankita talks about the struggles for differently-abled women and how she was different and fought against all odds.

But there was no looking back. She lost one year of education, but did not lose hope and finished her school and graduation, and pursuing MBA at present, along with working for Belgium Diamonds New York office from home, she never lost her spirits. Her family has a major role to play in this, never to give up attitude, letting her freely do whatever she wishes to, is what sets her apart from others.

“A strong support system at home especially my mother has helped me pursue all my dreams in life.”

The idea of participating in Miss India Wheelchair came while sitting with friends and having a casual discussion of why not try out something that will break down the barriers for disabled women. That was her eureka moment, when she stumbled upon Miss India Wheelchair, and decided to participate in it. After few queries she came across the fact that the makeup, attire and every other expense she had to bear. We hear so much about glamorization and sponsors when it comes to Miss India, Miss World and the events alike, but when it comes to support for victimized people, nobody is ready to sponsor such events. But with God’s grace she successfully managed everything with the support of her two sisters, who helped her in deciding the outfit and makeup. She reached the final round of this pageant with her smart answers and ultimately won the title of runner up of Miss India Wheelchair.

“I need to change the social perception about  people with disabilities. Every woman in a wheel chair has the right to feel beautiful and to do what she likes” -says Ankita Sharma

Now there’s absolutely no looking back from here, she has her plans clear. Planning to participate in Miss World Wheelchair, already applied for it, and living her life in full enthusiasm, Ankita Sharma, a happy-go-lucky girl, we wish you All The Best for your future and hope you make our country proud by winning the Miss World Wheelchair pageant.

An Interesting Date Between Investors And Risk Takers At Smash Up 2017 – A Startup Event In Jaipur

The third edition of SmashUp presented by TiE Rajasthan, is the biggest “unconference” of the year, which was a two day event on 3rd-4th November in Jaipur. It is an event designed for early stage entrepreneurs focusing on peer learning from contemporary founders. But it is not only about the startup journeys of the successful entrepreneurs but also about sharing ideas with them. The event ideas could be pitched and the investors could even fund you! This is what differentiates SmashUp from rest of the startup events.

A two day event began on 3rd November with “speed dating with investors“. You must be wondering what does that mean. Speed dating with investors is basically one on one pitches with investors, where around 600 applications were heard and only 6 of them were qualified for the next round. It was an interesting sight to see people come up with their startup ideas and pitch them in front of the investors.

The second day started with the mentoring clinic by TiE Navigators, where members of TiE Rajasthan were giving mentoring sessions to the young entrepreneurs. The second half started with a welcome note in a hall which was filled with event’s speakers, investors and students with their startup ideas with them.

“Suits intimidate, presentations make you sleep and podium is the thing that blocks the flow between an audience and the speaker” Chirag Patel, CEO, KOOH Sports Pvt. Ltd., started SmashUp. Welcome note was so inspiring that you couldn’t even think of walking away from the event.

“Better doesn’t sell, different does”- an insightful quote by Rehan Yar Khan, the keynote speaker was truly the motivating factor of the event.

It was followed by the entrepreneurial experience shared by Sanjay Agarwal, MD of AU Small Finance Bank. He received a lot of stress balls for his witty answers to audience’s questions. Throwing stress balls meant that you agree to what the speaker is saying and he received a lot of them. 🙂

Next came the open pitches session which was a fun and interesting activity as you could listen to what all new ideas people have already come up with and they can actually solve a lot of problems in future.

The three geniuses Aditya Gandhi, Director of Redwood Tours, Devendra Agarwal, founder of Dexter Capital and Dhruv Khanna, CEO of Data Resolve shared their startup tales and how they learned from their mistakes.

Stories from Pink City with Vishwas Shringi, CEO of Voylla and Prafulla Mathur, founder of WudStay shared their experience and how people should stick to their ideas and work on them.

Next in queue was panel discussion- the investor’s perspective with Anil Joshi, MD of Unicorn India Ventures, Sunil Goyal, MD of YourNest venture Capital and Harshad Lahoti, Founding partner of Ah!Venture.

Smasher Pitches followed from Day1 had second round today and the winner was Brigson Innovations Pvt. Ltd. with a brilliant start up idea.

This event was a huge success, with great entrepreneurs from all walks of life coming and interacting with startup entrepreneurs of today, mentoring and giving guidance to them, and having one on one conversations with them is what makes this event stand out from others.

9 Foodie Favorites at Pushkar Covered on A Special Food Trail by Jaipur Beat

Pushkar Episode .jpg

Though the annual Pushkar Fair is famous for live stock trading but do you know Pushkar is also one heaven for foodies. From street stalls to roadside cafes, wide range of cuisines waits for food lovers to visit and enjoy sumptuous cuisine of Pushkar. In this holy town Non-veg food is strictly prohibited and when it comes to vegetarian food there is always a feeling of limited options available. But there’s no other place that can match the variety of veg cuisines offered here.

When Jaipur Beat decided to be at Pushkar Fair, we left no street uncovered to find out some food gems of Pushkar and we zeroed on a handful of them to try their food owing to some strong recommendations.

As we walked down the streets amidst the aroma of freshly made Baatis, steaming hot tea being served in mitti ka kulhad(earthen pots), puris and kachoris being fried right on the street, the whiff of gulkand and the sight of tempting malpuas dipped in sugar syrup were oozing out utter bliss.

Let us take you through a safar of the Pushkar streets during the annual Pushkar Mela where Jaipur Beat tried some rarest mouthwatering dishes so that next time, you don’t have to think before you eat –

1.Tea Stall Hawker– In India wherever you travel, having a cup of tea is no big deal. Roadsides are dotted with chai wallahs who serve tea boiled up with spices, sugar and milk. But here at Pushkar this Chai Wala adorning pagdi serving steaming hot tea in mitti ka kulhad will surely grab your attention.

ADDRESS – Brahma Temple Road

2. Poha Pizza Pakwan- You must have heard of Poha, Pizza, and Dal Pakwan but here comes a crazy fusion called Poha Pizza Pakwan which is available only here at Pushkar Breakfast Corner. This is one of the most relished breakfasts in Pushkar. A crispy crunchy mathri is topped with dal (cooked lentils) and regular poha with onion, tomato sprinkled  with chatpata masala.  But remember you could only get it if you hit the streets before 10 am.

ADDRESS – Pushkar Breakfast Corner

3. Kachori- A popular local breakfast dish in Rajasthan are these round fluffy Kachoris stuffed with tempting masalas and fried till golden brown, but this crispy kachori being served with tamarind chutney at ‘Ugma Ji Ki Kachori,  is an absolute treat that needs special attention.

ADDRESS – Ugma Ji Ki Shop
Opp Maheshwari Seva Sadan

4. Out Of The Blue Café- The crowded streets of Pushkar during the fair time leave no space to relax. But here we see this calm and serene lake view rooftop cafe – Out of the Blue. With the soothing blue interior this café is your ultimate relaxation point and one stop destination for all your cravings of delectable Italian and continental cuisines and of course for some truly delectable pizzas. A perfect retreat for our “Firangi Mehmaan” and those with videshi taste buds.

ADDRESS – Out Of The Blue Cafe’

Kapra Bazaar

5. Malpua- Malpua is a sweet delicacy that is made best only in Pushkar and that too in Halwai Ki Gali. These little ‘pancakes’ coated with nutty sugar syrup are the ultimate sweet indulgence. Malpuas are quiet heavy on stomach but no one can stop at just one. They are made even richer when served with Rabdi (sweet condensed milk). Sarvadia Mishtan Bhandar is the name to remember as they serve the best Malpuas in Pushkar.

ADDRESS – Sarwadiya Mishthan Bhandar
Halwai Gali, Badi Basti,

6. Poori Aloo- The popular Indian breakfast of Poori Aloo needs no introduction. We all have had it at different places but the poori aloo served at Pushkar is unique as the use of curd in their aloo curry distinguishes it from the rest.

ADDRESS –Shri Sarveshar Sweets and Namkeen
Halwai Gali, Badi Basti,

7. Falafel

Pushkar is a much sought-after destination for international tourists and that is the reason along with all the Rajasthani delicacies, Pushkar is also famous for its continental cuisines. You can find many street shops serving Falafel and hummus wraps. They have so many kinds of laffas  (what’s this) that you can sit here for an entire day and you still can’t finish trying them all!

Address- Pawan Restaurant
Narsing Ghat

8. Makhaniya Lassi

Pushkar is famous for its Gulkand- a sweet caramelized preserve of rose petals. And here we get to taste the lassi with a unique blend of mawa, yogurt and gulkand. For the best Gulkand lassi, the top in town is Kumawat Lassiwala, a small stall near Brahma temple.

Near Brahma Temple

9. Dal Baati

Once known as Rajasthan’s staple food, Baati is eaten with Dal and Churma and varies in tastes and sizes all across Rajasthan. In Pushkar Baatis are quite big in size, which are dipped in desi ghee and served in this tempting Thali.

Address- Pooja Restaurant

Mela Ground

We tried to eat everything possible but still missed many. If you think it’s over, wait there is a long list pending for our next visit. Till then- Happy eating 🙂

Let’s watch this Special Episode on Pushkar Food Trail-
