Jaipur….Naam to suna hoga 🙂 The capital of Rajasthan and the largest Indian State- Jaipur is the land of vibrant colors, marvellous architectures, monuments and palaces. With so much written and seen about this place in history pages and in movies most people think, they know everything about Jaipur City.
But let us tell you, many times, they are mistaken, absolutely and entirely. Let’s see Pink City from a little different perspective through the eyes of Jaipur Beat.
- Everyone does not speak Marwari or English. Majority speaks Hindi
As soon as you enter the Pink City, don’t assume that everyone here will greet you with Marwari or English. Majority of the people here are Hindi speaking, so it is better if you speak to them in Hindi. (If you know)
- Don’t feel pressured by honking or traffic
While commuting in Jaipur, be ready to face someone overtaking you from left, crossing red lights, over speeding or honking without any reason. Be prepared because there are no drills to deal with it. Avoid driving on your own instead hire a cab or an auto.
- Buy liquor before 8 p.m.
Don’t assume that Jaipur is a city with no party culture. We do party and prepare for that in advance as in Jaipur, liquor shops close sharp at 8 p.m. Don’t forget to stock all your liquor before 8 p.m.
- Don’t litter
Jaipurites are trying hard to fight this habit of littering around. So dare you to think of littering Jaipur, because ‘Swachhta Song’ is our daily alarm. So, don’t even dare to mess with the cleanliness of the city.
- Fashion is great but dress according to the weather
We have the liberty of enjoying each and every weather. The temperature is extremely hot in summers, humid in monsoon and chilly in winters. Don’t just pack your bags thinking you are going to desert state of Rajasthan which is famous for its deadly summers.
- Authentic food is too spicy
We can imagine your love for authentic food but, don’t forget that the authentic spicy food, be it Laal Maans or Pyaaz Ki Kachori, Mirchi Bada or street side Gol gappas, will get you burning stomach pains. Beware guys else carry your antacid!
- Take the flavours of both new and old city
Have planned your city tour on the basis of heritage monuments, gates and other historical points and city bazaars? Change it now, don’t miss to see the new gate of Jawahar circle or WTP or take a metro ride to experience Pink City from newer perspective.
- Live the day but don’t miss the nightlife
Elephant ride to Amer or Light and Sound show? Albert Hall in the daytime to enjoy the sight with multitudes of pigeon flying or at night with mesmerising royal glory? Some choices are difficult to make. Jaipur is one off city which is to be visited for its beauty in the daytime as well as at night. So, don’t miss it and spend at least one night in the city.
- Extra cash and ATM cards
Sab Kuch to sab jagah milta hai but when you’re in Jaipur you will get stuff which is not easily available in your city. The busy market streets from handmade to flagship stores makes this place as one of the best places on earth to shop. Don’t regret later that you’re not carrying enough cash to splurge.
- Dal Baati is not our staple
Like any other traveller, even a Jaipurite eats Dal Baati occasionally. It’s not our staple food. We too survive on dal roti 🙂
- People here are humble
Last but not the least, the people that you meet in Jaipur are humble and always ready to help. You are entering the city which is filled with sweetness and modesty.
