New Facets Of Art At “Craft Stories Under The Mango Tree”

Handicrafts and Jaipur have always had a close relationship from the ancient art of Blue Pottery of Persia to puppetry, Jaipuri Jootis, Jaipuri block printing and what not!

To celebrate this enriched culture of Jaipur, here’s a creative festival called “Crafts Stories Under the Mango Tree” that engulfs traditional arts by showcasing Indian heritage from an artisan’s point of view. A large number of skilful craft-designers, accomplished scholars and talented artisans are going to be a part of the festival.

The Spotlight Craft event at Crafts Under the Mango Tree concentrates in “Living Traditions related to Crafts-arts of India”. Paintings depicting the classic Indian tales through symphonic folk style based on the Narratives “Preserving the History through the Art of Story-telling” and “Sacred Geometry in Contemporary Miniature Arts.”

Crafts and Fashion go hand to hand. At Craft Stories Under the Mango Tree, the Spearhead designers of India’s fashion industry showcase their crafts through exclusive programs including “Clothing as Identity: Fashion Show” and “Clothing as Identity: Exhibition”.

Textiles ranging from Bandhani, Block Print, Embroidery, Weaving and various other options to choose from, witness beautifully designed products from artisan fashion designers at Craft Souk.

An exclusive film fest, hosting the unique hand skills, the lives and desires of artisans would be something to watch out for. Anchoring the ancient knowledge of traditions, culture and arts, these moving images are one of the highlights of Crafts Stories Under the Mango Tree.

Witness engrossing dialogue sessions with prominent panellists sharing their opinions on crafts, architecture, fashion and design.  The panel discussion includes but not limited to: “Textiles Tradition of Kutch”, “Neo-Miniature Art of India”, “Narrative Art of India”, “Crafts in Interior and Architecture”

Creating an admirable balance of performing arts with craft, Craft Manch highlights the folk performances and contributes to craft skills through its different facets like “Theyyam,” “Kerela Shadow Puppets,” and “Pabuji ka Phad.”

From Charkha Spinning to Leather Puppet Making, Mata ni Pachedi and Kavad making, The Craft Karkhana at Craft Stories Under the Mango Tree is all about workshops and hands-on-experience from well-versed artisans.

  1. Space Making Crafts
    This section includes the science of being an artist who relates to tangible and intangible aspects of crafts accounting to embellishing architectural elements and interior décor.

 

Bringing together like-minded people, the festival dwells into the euphoric experiences of Indian material culture. It talks about creativity, shares stories and encounters diverse aspects of crafts and Indian material culture.

So while there’s still the Jaipur Literature festival going on for the hardcore literature enthusiasts, Craft Stories Under the Mango tree is a welcome change for the creative heads.
