  1. 2 Broke Girls

The show revolves around the lives of Max Black, (Kat Dennings) a daughter of a poor, working-class mother, and Caroline Channing, (Beth Behrs) born rich but now penniless because her father got caught operating a Ponzi scheme. Now both working as waitresses at the same Brooklyn diner. The two soon become friends and started working towards their dream of opening their own cupcake shop. The show is nothing like the mainstream chick-flicks and will definitely leave you rolling on the ground laughing. The show depict the life in an office. It consists of relationships between boss and employees/co-workers. It is created in a satire effect to create humor and comedy. Some of the main characters include Michael Scott (Steve Carell), the boss, Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson), a paper sales-man, Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer), a secretary, and Jim Halpert (John Krasinski), another paper sales-man.  The show is a spy thriller where the protagonist, Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), is a CIA officer who has a bipolar disorder and believes that Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis), who is being held captive by al-Qaeda as Prisoner of War, has been turned against them and poses a threat to the U.S. This sets Mathison on her covert mission. Hannibal is a Psychological horror-thriller. Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) is a FBI profiler. While investigating, Graham finds that he himself is getting affected by the disturbing psychiatric behavior and starts to experience hallucinations and disorientation. Each season has a different story to tell about many horrific things and places. The series takes its genre very seriously and leaves its viewers off balance and disturbed afterwards.   1. F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

 You have been living under rock if you don’t already know about F.R.I.E.N.D.S. It’s a classic sitcom. The story revolves around the lives of six friends in their 20’s and an insomnia cafe. Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston) flees from her wedding and finds Monica Geller (Courteney Cox), a NYC Chef and her childhood friend, and soon becomes a part of their group of singles which includes Joey Tribibiani (Matt LeBlanc), a struggling actor, Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry), Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow), a masseuse, and Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), a newly divorced Paleontologist and Monica’s elder brother.  Yet another classic, Braking Bad, is a neo-western crime-drama series. It tells the story of a struggling and depressed Chemistry school teacher, Walter White (Bryan Cranston), with a stage-3 lung cancer. His disease causes this meek high school teacher to turn towards crime. He starts manufacturing and selling crystallized meth (recreational drug) under the name Heisenberg, to secure his family’s financial future. The show garnered appreciation world-wide and received 16 Primetime Emmy Awards, eight Satellite Awards, and the list goes on. The show has even made it to the Guinness World Records.   1. Chernobyl

 A magnificent series based on a true story, Chernobyl dramatizes one of the worst man-made catastrophes in the history of human-kind. The series concentrates on the nuclear plant disaster that took place in Soviet Ukraine in April, 1986. The show informs us of the cause of the disaster and stories of several people who died in it. The series released recently and has already been praised by television critics across the ocean alike. It is available on Hotstar for the Indian audience.

  1. How I Met Your Mother

An American live-action sitcom, How I Met Your Mother, is a frame story, Ted Mosby in the year 2030, narrates to his children the events that led him to meet their mother. The story starts in 2005 in New York City and involves his best friends Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris), a womanizing- playboy, Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders), news reporter, and long-lasting couple, Marshall Erikson (Jason Segal) and Lily Aldrin (Alison Hannigan). Family Guy is an animated sitcom that centers around the Griffins, a family consisting of parents Peter Griffins and Lois Griffins, their children Meg, Chris and Stewie, and their anthropomorphic pet dog, Brian. The series is majorly based on self-referential humor and emphasizes on gags that make reference to current events and/or modern cultural icons.  Another hilarious animated sitcom is The Simpsons which is set in a satirical depiction of the working class and includes parodies of American culture and society, television, and the human condition.  The main characters are the Simpson family who live in Springfield town (fictitious name). Though the Simpson are a dysfunctional family, many episodes examine their relationships and bonds with each other, which provides its audience with a mix of emotions. The Simpsons have also been a part of various controversies, bans, and even racial stereotyping due to its nature.  Apart from being an acclaimed sitcom, what’s amazing about this show was that it was filmed in front of a live audience. This one is for all the DC comic lovers. Arrow, is a superhero series about a billionaire playboy, Oliver Queen a.k.a. Arrow (Stephen Amell), who is isolated from the rest of the world due to a shipwreck and spends five years of his life on a mysterious island. On returning, he decides to spend his life fighting crime and corruption as a secret vigilante, and chooses a bow and arrow as the weapon of his choice. Another DC character that has been leaving his mark on TV is Flash. The idea of Flash came to surface after two appearances by Barry on Arrow. Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) is a crime scene investigator who gains super-human speed by getting struck by lightning and after awakening from coma finds out about his power, hence, becomes Flash. He uses his powers to fight-off criminals while keeping his identity a secret. The series experience loads of time-travel too, which makes it all the more interesting to watch. Mindhunter is a crime-drama web series based on the book. The series is set in 1977 – in the early days of criminal psychology and profiling at the FBI. The show focuses on FBI agents Holden Ford (Johnathan Groff), agent Bill Tench (Holt McCallany), and psychologist Wendy Carr (Anna Torv). This series will push the boundaries of how you think and will make you wonder how these killers are triggered by the slightest of the things. Watch out for the Mindhunter only on Netflix.

 Law and order is a legal-drama that dramatizes police procedures. Each episode is divided into two parts whereby the first part follows police work and the later part follows legal and courtroom proceedings. Though the show was criticized, it gives an insight of the police, detectives, and trial that takes place during an investigation.   1. Grey’s Anatomy

 Grey’s Anatomy is a drama show that provides you romance, comedy, emotions, and a lot of acquaintances to medical lives. The fictional series focuses on the lives of surgical interns, residents, and attending physicians both in terms of their careers as they develop into seasoned doctors, and their personal lives and relationships. It has tried to aptly depict how the doctors struggle to balance their personal lives with their hectic professional lives, which often leads to serious stress. It introduces us to the side of doctors that we often miss to see either as a patient or an acquaintance.  House of Cards is an American political-thriller series set in Washington D.C. and is the story of the power-hungry Congressman, Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey), and his equally ambitious wife, Clair Underwood (Robin Wright). The series depicts how the duo seek each other’s success to each other’s ventures and how the lust of power drives Frank Underwood to do vile things such as having an affair, ruining reputations, and even killing.   1. Designated Survivors

 The next political-thriller on the block has to be the Designated Survivors. It is the story of the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Thomas Kirkman, who was named Designated Survivor after surviving an explosion that claimed the lives of the President and everyone in the line of succession except for him. This leads to Kirkman immediately becoming the President, unaware of what is to come next. The show is available on Netflix.

  1. Westworld

 Westworld is a science-fiction show set in an unspecified time in the future. Westworld is a theme park which allows guests to experience the old times, an environment populated by ‘hosts’ (androids, nearly indistinguishable from humans). Hosts are supposed to fulfill guest’s every desire and follow a predetermined set of intertwining narratives. This cycle of narrative keeps on going as new guests arrive because their memories are reset and then repeated daily. But problems are about to arise in Westworld as members of a small group of hosts are starting to retrieve some of the memories from their previous life.  The next series that has been garnering appreciation all over the globe is Stranger Things, a science fiction-horror series. The series is set in the 1980s in the fictional town of Hawkins. Things starts to get wired after a secret paranormal experiment that includes human subjects conducted by Hawkins National Laboratory goes wrong and ends up creating a portal to an alternate dimension known as “The Upside Down” after which a boy called Will Byers gets abducted by a creature from the Upside Down.  Sherlock is a British crime-drama based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle‘s Sherlock Holmes detective stories.
