Five Essentials of Navratri Festival

The most widely celebrated 9-day long Hindu festival, Navratri is celebrated to honour the goddess Durga. This festival holds great significance among people as it is associated with the blessings of Goddess Durga, which represents Shakti, the cosmic energy that animates all beings. Navratri is celebrated in four seasons but the one follows the season of autumn is considered as the most auspicious of all and it also marks the beginning of the festive season. This is also the time when Maa Durge is getting ready to enchant the Pink City in her aura. But do you know what are the 5 essentials of Navratri festival?

shila mata temple

Let’s have a look-

Maa Durga

Fresh Start– Navratri brings a new zeal with itself and there is a wave of new beginnings all around. Be it a new business, new home, a new car or furnishing, transforming into a new self, starting a healthy lifestyle or starting a new relation, we all wait for this time cause we know to embark on a fresh new journey with the blessings of Maa Durga will turn into a success.

amer-by-jaipur-beat (1)

Faith– Of all the stories from folklore, there’s one thing in common- the victory of good from the evil which is why we celebrate Navratri. It’s that time of the year when we finally start visiting the temples quite often to seek the blessings. It’s this time of the year when every Jaipurite takes out some time to visit Amer’s Shila Mata temple. On all these nine-day Navratra festival the Shila Devi temple at Amer Fort holds special significance. Thousands of people from Jaipur and surrounding areas come here to pay offerings to Shila Devi. It is said that Maharaja Mansingh of Jaipur brought the statue of the goddess Shila Mata from Jessore “Bangladesh” in 1604 and till date the idol is placed here and worshipped.

Maa durga 1.jpg

Fasting– We believe that fasting during Navratra is a way to get spiritually closer to the almighty. There are no fasting rules, everyone has its own reason to fast. Some fast for o it for faith, some to meet out their weight loss goals and few do it for de-toxication. Whatever your reason is fasting is something that we all believe in.

Feasting-  While some people fast, some people eat all the Falahari delight during Navratra. From fruit- chaat to Saabudana Khichdi and Kuttu Ki Puri we keep all the sweet to salty options at hand. The festive season brings a new enthusiasm for the people who are fasting and who is not.

lassiwalaFalahaar

Fun Unlimited- An how can we miss the ultimate fun. People get into the mode of festivity in full swing. Adorned in glittery Gujarati and Rajasthani lehengas, playing Garba with friends, is all fun and exciting and the most vivid sight of this entire festival. Thousands of Jaipurites of all age groups can be seen stepping together on the beats of Garba & Dandiya music in many places around the city.

Garbagarba dandiya

So, if you are in Jaipur during this season you are lucky enough to explore the city in its own uniqueness 🙂

Happy Navratri to you all!

Jaipur warming up to usher in Ganesh Chaturthi celebration!

Ganesh Chaturthi 2.jpg

It’s that time of the year again when the world celebrates the birthday of its legendary god by grooving on these beats. There’s fun, madness and passion in this festivity. Jaipur has already begun the celebration of this grand festivity to be held on 2nd September 2019. Its temples have lighted up with colours of joy. ”!

Ganesh Chaturthi2

You can see hundreds of beautiful idols created across the streets of Jaipur (thanks to the efforts of these skilful artists!). Whether it’s JLN Marg or Ajmer Road, Bappa is making appearances everywhere.

Ganesh Chathurthi 1.jpg

And certainly, this celebration is incomplete without the magnificent arrangements at Moti Dungri Ganesh Mandir. For a true Jaipurite no auspicious ceremony, new purchase of a vehicle or the wedding is complete without taking the aashirwaad of Ganesh Ji at Moti Doongri temple.

This is the time when the local talents have got the opportunity to showcase their flair. Every day, graceful kathak dancers also give their performances.

dance 2.jpg

Ganesh Chaturthi1dance

The temple is flooded with devotees who are always donating their love in the form of our cutest deity’s favourite modaks. Not only that, honey and milk are offered in bulk as well. The priests’ plan to present Bappa with half a million ladoos weighing 11, 21 and 51 kgs reveals the spirit of the occasion.

ganesh-modak.jpg

It’s not all, there’s going to be ‘Shringar Mehndi’ event, where the idol will be adorned with henna. Also, as a practice, people will do the same on their hands.

In the end, Jhaankiyan or processions from Moti Dungri will leave for Garh Ganesh.

People from different parts of India come to Jaipur to visit this grand festivity. Fondness and dedication are beyond one’s imagination. The number will be pretty big but ease up, it’s not Kumbh ka Mela 😛

Furthermore, what makes it more interesting is the fact that the decorations have been massive as 141 works of gold have been done. It took 8 months to get the work done. That sounds insane right?! The temple looks like a fantasy land. The brightness of gold makes it highly alluring for eyes.

Every one of us has grown up hearing the stories of the broken tusk and elephant head and adores Bappa for who he is! Indian festivals not only bind families with joy but also usher positivity and peace

The whole team of Jaipur Beat wishes you and your whole family a very happy Ganesh Chaturthi. 🙂

Festival though is fêted all over the state but celebrated at its colorful best in Jaipur. Jaipurites welcome the advent of monsoon through Teej celebrations, which is also dedicated to Goddess Parvati and commemorates the day when she was united with Lord Shiva after a penance of a hundred years. A spellbinding procession of Goddess Parvati, followed by Palanquins, chariots, dancers and a band winds magnificently through the Old City of Jaipur for two days.

If you are a connoisseur and wish to blend in the festivities and experience it from close then waste no moment. Buy a special tie and die pattern, called LEHARIYA, which is only available at this time of the year. The wall city market area of Bapu Bazaar and Johari Bazaar offers many shops.
