Let’s Celebrate Teej With Great Zeal In Jaipur

The hues of love, culture and beauty mingled with the tints of heritage, handicrafts and a grand legacy brought down the generations. You are pink, I am pink; for pink is the color that this city leaves in our hearts forever. Jaipur, also known as the ‘Pink City’ was founded by Maharaja Jai Singh II in November, 1727. Known worldwide for its rich culture and architectural beauty, Jaipur is the largest city of Rajasthan, and its capital too. What makes it different from all other cities is its deeply rooted heritage that houses in itself not just the beauty of traditions and different art forms but also paves way for technological and architectural advancements. Whether it is about festivals or food, travel and tourism or corporal sector, Jaipur has a niche for every possible genre.

Teej festival.jpg

The months of July and August are the most prismatic ones in Jaipur. The city looks dipped into and drunk on rainbows. With the petrichor mixing in with the amazing fragrance of our favourite ‘chai and pakode’ comes again the most voraciously celebrated festival of ‘Teej’. Teej is one of the most colourfully celebrated festivals in Jaipur. It’s all about women dressed in jazzy leheriya, patricoloured lehengas, ‘Mehendi ki khushbu’ and ‘Saawan ke jhule’. And when it comes to Teej, how could we forget our favourite Malai Ghewar!

sawan ke jhoole.jpg

Teej falls on the third day after new moon. Teej as a festival is celebrated three times during the Indian month of Shravan, namely Hariyali teej, Kajli Teej, and Hartalika Teej. Badi Teej is celebrated with great zeal and pomp in our Jaipur city. Married women fast for the day and pray to Goddess Parvati for the long lives of their husbands and children. Young girls put on vibrant lehangas and leheriya sarees and enjoy the swings under lush green trees. As magnificent as this festival is, it keeps an immensely important place in the hearts of Jaipurites. We celebrate it with all kinds of food and festive preparations. Jaipur’s Teej celebration is not only famous across the nation, but also known across the globe for its enlivening and pulsing rituals, and traditions.

Teej.jpg

The very famous Rajasthani dessert ‘Ghewar’ is the authentic food associated with Teej. Other savoury dishes associated with Teej are ‘Malpua,’ ‘Kesar Jalebi,’ and ‘Mirchi Pakode.’ The mere thought of a kesar jalebi or a delicious malpua melting in our mouths is enough to get us high on love for this festival!

ghevar.jpg

Besides the amazing excitement among common people for Teej, every year the Rajasthan Tourism carries out a pageant procession that passes from various areas of the old city of Jaipur including Tripolia Bazar, Chaugan Stadium  and Talkatora. Rajasthani folk dances, palanquins, tableaux, vividly ornamented elephants and drama are different parts of this vibrant pageant that takes place on the day of Haryali Teej. Scores of Jaipurites along with national as well as international tourists turn up to enjoy the festivities of this grand pageant. Apart from the common spectators, it also attracts hundreds of photographers and videographers for the extravaganza. Teej Procession is one of the biggest pageant held in Jaipur, over the year.

Teej, for Jaipurites is not a mere monsoon festival, it is also a feeling of being tied to our colourful roots of Rajasthani tradition, that keep the beauty and avidity for culture alive year after year.

7 Reasons Why Rajasthanis Love Saawan So Much

Rajasthan is a land of many festivals. We enjoy our festivals with great pomp and fervor. As the state is all about colors, there is no wonder that it becomes even more vivid during festivals. Rajasthanis have a special place for Saawan in their hearts as the whole month is full of festivities. Saawan can be touted as the longest festival as every day is a celebration in this month. Besides sprinkles of rain, here are more reasons why we Rajasthanis go crazy about Saawan-

1.Lehariya

lehariya

Saawan is the time when the lovely ladies of Rajasthan can show their love for lehariya every single day. Women adore this traditional print but cannot wear it all the time as no one wants to commit the fashion faux pas of repetition. Saawan is the perfect excuse to flaunt vibrant Lehariya prints every day.

2.Jhoola

jhoola

This month brings back Jhoola on trees. All of us love to swing high on the jhoolas and our inner child becomes really happy in Saawan. Swinging on decorated Jhoolas with friends makes this rainy month special.

3.Mehendi and Bangles

Mehndi JB

The custom of henna comes back in Saawan. Hands adorned with fragrant orange colors look just beautiful. Every lady loves the jingling sound of bangles but hardly anyone wears them in today’s times. In Saawan, women get to indulge in their love for colorful bangles without having to worry about dress codes.

4.Picnics

sawan bhado park

The weather turns cooler and there is greenery everywhere. This makes for the perfect setup for picnics with family and friends. So many well maintained, lush gardens in Rajasthan make picnics marvelous.

5.Ghewar

ghevar

Ghewar is a delicacy that makes Rajasthanis wait one whole year before they can gorge on it again. We love to gorge on the decadent flavors of this sweet every day in Saawan month.

6.Saawan Ke Geet

festivals (1)

Dancing on the tunes of Saawan Aayo Re is always fun in this rainy month. Songs related to Hindola (swings), teej, Sawan Ke Jhoole Pade flow in the air of the state throughout Saawan. Ladies sing these folk songs while enjoying rides on a swing.

7.Teej

IMG_8294

Teej brings all elements of Saawan together. The festival which pays tribute to Nature is all about women enjoying themselves. They dress up in lehariya, apply henna, bedeck themselves with jewellery and sing while swinging on beautiful jhoolas. Then there is teej procession which splashes cities with many more colors. The dances and other folk performances in teej procession lure not just Rajasthanis but people from every corner of the world.

What’s not to love about Saawan!

Celebration of 50,000 Facebook Fans

It’s amazing how time flies, and when this flight keeps going higher, there is nothing more beautiful than that. When we joined Facebook as Jaipur Beat on December 8, 2010, in order to share with people various shades of Jaipur, what began with some light talks about movies and Jaipur’s weather, soon turned into a strong source of news generation and dissemination that was much ahead of its time at that time. We kept going and kept providing innovative things to our audience, and the rest is history 🙂

Here are the highlights of the journey done by Jaipur Beat on Facebook to achieve the milestone of 50,000 fans.

  1. Wordy WordPress

We joined wordpress in 2011 as jaipurbeat.com creating our own header and background and then began a series of blogs which initially talked about news, movies, weather and moved on to become a full-fledged website talking about every happening event in Jaipur and outside !

  1. Original Pictures

Mid 2013 we decided to stop using pictures from Google, something that every Jaipur page is doing today, and started to generate our own pictures or source it from our friends. Since then, a new trend began at Jaipur Beat, apart from the adept photographers here, everyone who gets news, clicks a photo along with it. After all, practice makes a man perfect 😉

  1. Oprah Winfrey at JLF 2012

It was surely a moment when the American Talk Show Queen-Oprah Winfrey arrived on the third day of Jaipur Literature Festival and chatted with Barkha Dutt. But what was a bigger moment was that Jaipur Beat covered this moment when the affable Oprah talked sense and looked beautiful in the Indian mustard salwar kameez clad with golden bangles.

  1. First Photography Contest

Just like the craze of pehli bearish aka the first rain of monsoon, Jaipur Beat saw people going crazy when we launched our first photography contest as an event on Jaipur Beat ! We saw the ‘Drizzling Pink City’ drizzling with pleasing photographs of monsoon in Jaipur realizing what making your audiences engage and participate as per their strength can do to your page.

Drizzling Pink City

Khushboo-e-Jaipur

It was just the start, and then in collaboration with the huge theatre festival – Jairangam, Jaipur Beat conceptualized Khushboo-e-Jaipur, a photography contest at a bigger level where the winners won big prizes and participants got a chance to display their photographs in the photography exhibition at JKK.

  1. Bhajiya Awards – 2013

When all the Filmfares and IIFAs were over, we thought why not appreciate all those who tried a hand in the movies of 2012 and kind of missed the point 😉 So we had some special awards for them and this very blog surely tickled some funny bones !

  1. I Love Jaipur

Well yes we have already left no stone unturned to prove that 😉 But this was a concept of telling people exactly why we love Jaipur so much ! Though we began to make our designs with our logo and content in October 2013, we still haven’t run out of reasons and we promise you we never will 🙂

i Love Jaipur

  1. Responsible Citizens

Jaipur Beat might be loved for its light talks and humorous demeanour, but never has it limited itself to just that. When it comes to throw light at the flaws of pink city or some important information and bring them to the notice of public, Jaipur Beat takes the first step to inform its audience.

  1. First Cartoon Based Design

The first cartoon based design Jaipur Beat made was a tribute to the year 2013, what could have been luckier for us? It was a creative cartoon that depicted the happenings and prominent events that happened during the year 2013 and received a huge appreciation in terms of likes, shares and comments.

  1. Rajasthan Factopedia

  1. Encouraging Start-ups

Among all MNCs and people in regular jobs, there are always some who dream of starting their own business with an original and unique idea and all they need is a little support to kick start. Jaipur Beat is always available for these brilliant souls and when approached by start ups like Fataakse.com – an e-commerce website for grocery supply or Frubox – an online portal for selling fruits and their salads, started by 4 engineers of MNIT to begin a healthy culture in town, Jaipur Beat personally met them and covered them on all its social media platforms.\

  1. Our tribute to the food of Jaipur – Jeeman

How can we separate Jaipur from food? To unite them both and present the authentic food and wide variety of delicacies available in Jaipur, especially made by those who are known as the kings of  city streets, yet not getting proper recognition, Jaipur Beat became the first one to begin a food trail of Rajasthan called ‘Jeeman’. Its first episode talked about the famous Pandit ki Pav Bhaji and the next few will be covering other delicious treats of Jaipur in a way that you will want to come and taste the flavours of Rajasthan right away !

Its Raining Fashion In Jaipur !!

Jaipur with its incredible history , art and culture, is now adding one more feather to its cap by hosting various Fashion shows.

One of the leading and the most prestigious fashion institutes, Pearl Academy, recently organised an astonishing fashion show in its annual grading event “Portfolio 15” at Hotel Clarks Amer, Jaipur. And guess who was the esteemed Guest of Honor? India’s most successful fashion designer – Manish Malhotra !!

IMG_0863

Portfolio ’15 presented more than 100 innovative designs by its graduating students which were a perfect amalgamation of Western and Indian styles by these talented and young fashion designers. With high beats of music in the background, the crowd was thrilled and ecstatic. The show witnessed a huge audience which encompassed young fashion enthusiasts , HNIs and some leading fashion designers of the industry.

IMG_4662

The collections showcased off beat color combinations and clearly a lot of experimentation was done with the outfits. The skirts, maxies, blouses were definitely a delight to watch.  The designers also displayed a concept ‘Monochrome’ which defines one color or the shades of one color in the show.

IMG_4546

IMG_4757

The most intriguing collection that was seen on the ramp was ‘The Post Apocalyptic Bride’ by Pooja Verma that focused on post-apocalyptic fashion using materials that remain behind even when everything else decays. The collection was impressive given that it was created out of nothing and the creativity and imagination of the designer was beyond beautiful and eccentric.

The designers also portrayed the look of a hunter man in the wasteland with the  concept ” Gypsy” which showcased Junglee and Raw Look.

IMG_4523

Apart from depicting the designer clothes based on various themes , there was a round which showcased attractive “Jewelry” by famous designers.

The event ended on a high note and marked the success of the fashion designers of the academy 🙂

Mr. Javed Akhtar, one of the renowned faces of our country and a regular attendee of JLF, charmed and enchanted the audience with his witty and insightful discussion on music during his session ‘Gaate Jaye Banjara: Film Songs- Urdu, Hindi, Hindustani’ and ended it with his beautiful ghazal ‘Main bhool jaun ab yahi munasib hai’ from the movie ‘Silsila’. 🙂 It was indeed a beautiful experience to listen to him.

Some other highlights of the Day 1 at JLF were the sessions by Prasoon Joshi,  Devdutt Pattanaik, Naseeruddin Shah, Hanif Kureishi and many more. To serve the attendees and the guests, food was one of  the things that was taken care of very well. Various restaurants like Suryamahal, The Floating Leaf Cafe, The Fat Lullus, Puchka & Co., etc. were devotedly serving the people appetizing food at prices which were slightly higher than the actual. 😉 The book lovers were seen spending time at the Amazon Book Store while the not so book lovers were busy eating, talking and getting clicked. The Day 1 ended well but there is a lot more to catch up on literature, cinema, world and not to forget fashion. So stay Tuned for some more interesting updates!
