8 Cool Escapes To Beat The Heat

Jaipur experience all the season in their extremes. With the temperature being 46 degrees Celsius the heat is unbearable. But we, Jaipurites know how to enjoy the best of both worlds, no matter how extreme it gets. Summers in Jaipur is the warmest times usually extending from April till July. But summer is also that time of the year when we can socialize, unwind and relax cause summertime is vacation time. Most of the schools are on break and colleges are mostly inactive. Therefore, as soon as summer approaches we all start making plans for the vacations, deciding the next spot we want to visit, relishing over all things cool or having a water gun fight with your pals. Ah, summer is fun. But we all know Jaipur can get all heated up during summers and if you staying in the city like us then Jaipur Beat will help you beat this heat with these cool escapes.

1. Pool Parties

A pool party is always a good idea in summers, the best place to chill around with your family and friends. Splashing water all over the place and dancing to your favourite beats. Pink City has quite a few options for all the party-loving Jaipurites.

2. World Trade Park a.k.a my second home

Experiencing an electricity cut, worry not. “World Trade Park hai na yarr…” you can go there chill or hang out with your squad, have food at the court and enjoy the window shopping in the air-conditioned malls for as long as you want.

4. Hawa Mahal

OK! So this is one of my favourites from my childhood. Jaipur is known for its heritage all over the world. Thousands of people visit it around the year. Hawa Mahal is the spot you cannot afford to miss be you’re a tourist or a localite. Here’s why, Hawa Mahal’s architectural feature allows cool air from the Venturi effect to pass through, thus making the whole area more pleasant during the high temperatures in summer.

5. Jal Mahal

Talking about heritage with cool escapes, you cannot skip the list without Jal Mahal. Walking past the ‘Paal’ of Jal Mahal is how you want your day to end as it not only furnishes the cool breeze but also provides a picturesque sight.

6. Staying home and lazing around

Since its summer you get a chance to stick to your lazy bed/sofa and play games on your mobiles and laptops as your parents would be scared to send you outside due to the loo. And the best part is you can stay in your pyjamas the whole day, cause no leaving home.

7. Relish over ice cream/cold drinks

Who can say no to ice cream/cold drinks in summers? What are you even talking about, I survive on ice cream/cold drinks in summer.

Ice cream parlours in Jaipur serves many inviting flavours. Jal Mahal Ice Cream Parlor has some refreshing options on their menu that will make your taste buds go gaga with joy.

8. The perfect excuse to run through sprinklers in the garden

Remember when you were a kid and use to play with water balloons, relive those moments, let the child inside you jump out and run through the water sprinklers till you are drenched. It’s one of the best things about summers.

Its March Already & Winter Season Refuses To Go Away From Jaipur

Winters seem to stick in Jaipur longer than the usual this time. The weather took a turn but we’re back to square one, freezing in chilly breeze all over again. We’re sure Jaipurites must be living with confusion on a daily basis and we’re here to tell you how.

–          Woollen Clothes, Inside or Out?

When we almost decided to keep the woollen clothes inside, the weather ditched us right then. We neatly packed them and were almost bidding it a goodbye, but the weather was in a different mood and we had to take them out all over again.

–          Umbrellas?

Yes! Umbrellas are out and we are not joking. Going out for shopping or planning to visit your favourite picnic spot, don’t forget to carry an umbrella with you because you never know, the rain god might be showering its blessing on us anytime of the day!

          Fan or no fan?

At one point of time, we started switching on the fan, isn’t it true Jaipurites? But now every moment of the day is so confusing that we can’t decide what needs to be done L Winter, summer, humid, we’ve experienced it all in the past 15 days and still we’re stuck at the same question, fan or no fan?

–          Holi in pullovers?

This year seems like we will be playing the festival of colours in pullovers! Imagine all of us in bright coloured pullovers and splashing colours & water on each other 😀 Doesn’t it sound strange ! We might experience it this year Jaipurites, be prepared for it already 😉

–          Weather cold or not?

Alarm clock rings, we wake up to see the beautiful sunrise and guess what? You don’t see one! Yes, the weather has decided to play hide and seek with us. You wake up one day to see a bright sun shining right at you, the next day you see the rain showers as soon as you open your window and the very next day a cold chilly breeze blowing right at your face. We’re sick and tired of it. Why can’t the weather decide what it wants once and for all :/

–          Gajar Ka Halwa or Ice Cream?

Left in a pickle? Can’t decide whether your taste buds want Gajar Ka Halwa or is it already time for Ice Cream? Don’t worry, enjoy both side by side while watching the scenic view of Jaipur! Happy binge-eating 😀

10 Places in Walled City of Jaipur To Refresh Yourself with ‘Thanda’

The Jaipur city, as we know, houses an enormous amount of food joints. However there are certain food joints, which are not only the best when it comes to getting some relief in this scorching heat, but they also have a special place in our hearts as we have many memories attached to these places. Yes, we are talking about the age old ice cream parlours and famous kulfi shops in the walled city that have always been our go to place in summers ! Majority of these shops are decades old and are famous because they have been serving the same taste since years. They are known for literally serving happiness and smiles to people of all ages on sticks in terms of Kulfi – the traditional Indian ice cream and also adding a refreshing dose of juices, shakes and sharbats in our lives in the summer. So here is a list of ‘Thanda’ in Walled City, which you must visit as soon as you finish reading this.

1.) Guddu ice cream parlour

This shop on the corner of the street has been serving Jaipurites for four decades now. Even if you go here in the winter months the number of customers will be the same at the original ice cream parlour of the city.

Venue: Shop 88A, near Ajmeri gate, Nehru bazaar, Yadgar gali, MI road

2.) Gulnar

Before all these juice bars opened up in Jaipur this small shop in the heart of the walled city was the first where the people of Jaipur would go for refreshing juices. The shop has 4 more outlets sprawled in different areas. But the real magic is sitting in this small little shop in Kishanpole bazaar and sipping fresh juices which will definitely revitalize your long summer days.

Venue: Shop no 278, Kishanpole bazaarIMG_4561IMG_45443.) Kake ki dukan

This was the actual hangout place for all the young people in the walled city before restaurants and cafes took over. They serve mouth watering “hing ki kachori” which is definitely spicy. To balance out the spicie, the cooling milk rose is the perfect complement here.

Venue: Nehru bazaarIMG_4816IMG_48114.) Lassiwala

There are 2-3 Lassiwalas on MI road itself, but this is the original lassiwala which was established in 1944. Even though one glass of this lassi is quite filling you will be asking for more of this sweet curd based drink. Famous among tourists as well you will never find this shop empty.

Venue: Shop no.312, MI roadIMG_4937IMG_4955

5.) Mahaveer rabri bhandar

One of the oldest places in Jaipur this rabri bhandar is famous not only for its rabri but also for a range of other sweets. You can also skip your dinner and also try the aloo pyaaz ki sabzi with bejad ki roti here.

Venue: Near Goaplpura puliya, opposite HP petrol pump, Tonk road.IMG_4978IMG_49796.) New Dilbahar sharbat

Established in 1949, this shop in Choti Chaupar serves a variety of sharbats along with Rajasthani staple snacks like kachori and mirchi vada.  It might have been through a little rough patch because of the construction of metro but it does not affect the taste of the sharbats here.

Venue: 379, Choti ChauparIMG_4725

IMG_47227.) Original Ramchandra kulfi bhandar

This shop has been bringing smile on the faces of Jaipurites for 17 years now. The kesar pista kulfi here is probably the best you can find in the city. To comply with the growing demands of different shakes, they have updated their menu and now are also serving oreo shake. Go on an empty stomach here because the list of things that you should try here is long, including the faluda and papaya shake.

Venue: 222, Badi Chaupadh, near Hawa Mahal, Tripoliya bazaarIMG_4710IMG_4715IMG_46408.) Pandit kulfi

Even though this shop is now nearly 40 years old they are trying to improvise traditional flavors.  Pandit kulfi is the perfect example of an old place attempting out new things with kulfi flavours like paan and mango.

Venue: 110-111, Hawa Mahal roadIMG_4609IMG_4617IMG_46049.) Panna lal kulfi wale

This little green colored shop is famous for its matka kulfi and varieties of rabri. What will definitely catch your attention here is the eccentric names of dishes like “shahi rabri” and “baadshahi rabri”!

Venue: 1242, Gopal Ji ka rasta, Johri bazaarIMG_4983IMG_4999IMG_447210.) Ramchandra kulfi bhandhar

Another Ramchandra kulfi bhandhar on the list, this one is a kiosk near Ajmeri gate. The small size of this place doesn’t compromise at all with the quality and taste of the kulfis served here. If you stay far from the walled city you can also take dabas of this famous kulfi home and return them later. 🙂

Venue: Ajmer RoadIMG_4571IMG_4588

Now that you have the list, get ready to go and enjoy some amazing summer delicacies. 🙂

Different shades of pink city on World Tourism Day

On this World Tourism Day, how about planning an awesome weekend at Jaipur and enjoying the colors at pink city like never before !!

As you open your eyes early in the morning, just pick up your bag pack and drive away to the Jal Mahal palace standing in the middle of the Man Sagar lake. When the sun rises from behind the palace , the sky takes a shade of the vivid orange and the sparkling lake turn the sight into a silhouette of the most beautiful sunrise.

IMG_2336 - CopyAfter the breath taking view, go further and reach the Amer palace, one of the most precious gems of Jaipur that shines with pride in the hues of yellow. The Suraj Pol gate welcomes you with warmth, the name signifying the first ray of sun falling on Amer turning the gate into a glowing orange colored splendor.

Suraj Pol Gate

After the delightful morning it’s time for an equally delightful breakfast !! Thinking where and what to eat?? Don’t bother and head towards the Rawat Mishtan Bhandar on Station road. Is the smell of freshly prepared pyaaz ki kachoris already making your mouth water?? Enjoy the yummiest pyaaz kachoris in town with a big glass of lassi here and get all charged up for the rest of your journey in Jaipur.

Pyaaz-Kachori

A perfect beginning of the day must be followed by an interesting afternoon and what can be more interesting in pink city than shopping ? So it’s time to go the walled city and see that it has an offer that you can’t refuse; a matchless shopping extravaganza !! While you see the city side wrapped in bright colors, you can pick your block prints from Chaura rasta, Tripolia bazaar. If you’re fond of jewellery or your friends/ girlfriends or mothers are fond of them, get some exquisite pieces from Johari Bazaar, Bapu bazaar, M.I. road. These markets are also clad with bandhej (tie & dye), lac bangles and jootiya that are specially found here. Now that your hands are full of shopping bags and heart is filled with joy, your belly surely needs a good treat.

jooti

The one place where you’d enjoy both vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisine equally is Niros, located on M.I. road. The lal maans and chicken is the specialty if you’re a non-veg freak, and you can try baingan bharta if you’re a vegetarian. Make sure that you keep a little space in your bellies for some delicious desserts at Jalmahal Ice cream parlor situated right there.

Watching a sunset is as precious as the sunrise, isn’t it? Drive to the Nahargarh fort and witness the wonderful sight of the sunset from the top of the fort. As the sky gets into a blue mood, the city is lit up and the view from the top is spectacular and worth capturing. It’s time to catch the “Light and Sound” show at Amer. The show presents the symphony of the scintillating shades of light that illuminate the Amber fort after sunset along with narrating the history of the fort in the baritone voice of Amitabh Bachchan (the famous superstar of Indian cinema).

Now it’s your turn to decide whether you want to come down and have the famous Rajasthani dal baati churma at LMB ( Laxmi Mishtan Bhandar) or leave for a long drive that will take you through the way Jaipur has changed its shades in the last few years. If you have decided to watch the city at night, then drive to Hawamahal to see how its windows have now been back lit and tells a different story at night.

hawamahal

While going towards the Albert Hall Museum, have a look at how the State museum of Rajasthan reflects the deep rooted culture Jaipur is soaked in. On your smooth drive on JLN marg leads to the well lit Shree cements building making way to the newly developed shopping mall; World Trade Park of Jaipur. Now it’s time for a scrumptious dinner at Chokhi Dhani. Gorge on the Rajasthani thali festooned with the freshly cooked dal baati churma served with warmth and affection.

chokhi dhani

If you are planning to spend one more day at Jaipur, you might go to see the grand City Palace and Jantar Mantar the next day and check if Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK) is hosting any theater or exhibition for your visual delight.

So are you ready to have the most amazing weekend at Jaipur ??
