Here winter is not a season but a festival|Jaipur Beat

The scent of winter fog,  waft from tea stalls, hurried traffic crossing the mild sunshine, the sight of travellers exploring the hilltop Amer fort and locals wandering the narrow streets in traditional Rajasthani attire is a riot of delightful things for the senses at any time of year, but none more so than during the winter months.

We love the rush with which winter arrives and suddenly changes our lives with its aroma, and we never want these winter days to pass.
Winter is the best time to experience Rajasthan’s ‘Pink City’. For the people around, winter is just another season but for a Jaipurite it is a festival in itself.

Festival to indulge in the traditional delicacies, to enjoy gala events, to take pleasure in the legendary Polo game, to celebrate patang baazi, and to participate in the world’s biggest literature festival, the list goes on.

Winter Delicacies

Walk into any part of the city’s bazaars, the one thing that you cannot resist is the tandoori kulhad chai with pakoras.

Samosa, kachori, jalebi, Mirchi-vada and kadhai doodh at night is just the perfect ending note to the day. A true Jaipurite never leaves an opportunity to taste the variety served on its streets. Winters add an extra charm to almost everything we get on the streets and we don’t even miss the outdoors as the city has abundant rooftop bars and cafes.
Not to be missed, the winter chill is best enjoyed at bonfire nights.

Festivals and Events

The World looks up to Jaipur as it hosts some unique events and festivals, which no other city has to offer in winters.

This is the time for Jaipur Winter Polo Season, Children festival, kite festival, Jaipur Art Summit, Jaipur International Film Festival, Rajasthan International Film Festival and the one that needs no introduction- Jaipur Literature Festival and its Music stage. Too much on the platter, yeah?

Watch for Migratory Birdsjal-mahal-birds-2

The time for winged wonders. Gazing at the beautiful migratory birds, that travel from far lands to Mansagar lake, Barkheda and Chandlai lake is one of the kind experiences that we Jaipurites look forward to every year in winters.

Monument Hopping

The list is never complete without the three must-sees being the towering Palace of the Winds, the hilltop, marble-decked Amber Fort and the sprawling City Palace complex.
The mild winter sun makes the palace hopping a lot more fun.

This is the best time to enjoy Safari at Jhalana and enjoy the wilderness from close corners.  You never know when you stumble upon a black panther.

Kite Flying

For a true Jaipurite, kite flying is not a game but a religion.  When hundreds of kites dance in the sky and people dance on their terrace is a sight to behold. This is one of the most favorite and zealous festivals in Jaipur. And every Jaipurite has beautiful memories of Makar Sankranti.
So if you ever plan to visit Jaipur during winter, make sure you don’t miss the intoxicatingly enthusiastic vibe of Makar Sankranti!

Things to remember when you visit Jaipur for the first time

Winter is the best season to visit Jaipur- the land of heritage cocooned in colours of Rangeelo Rajasthan and blessed with a warm climate. With a boom of travellers and tourists around the city at this time, Jaipur Beat makes sure that the guests in Jaipur do not go disappointed. Here are a few things you need to remember before you come to Jaipur.

  1. Jaipur is not so hot after all!

The most important thing you need to remember is that although situated in Rajasthan the desert state, Jaipur is not and hot as it is assumed to be. The days are pretty warm but the nights and early mornings are chilly. You don’t want to miss the early morning and night views in Jaipur while sneezing in your blanket. So do carry your woollens.

2. Food can catch you off guard.

When in Jaipur, there is a variety of Rajasthani food from Daal Bati Churma to Kachori, Samosa, Mirchi Vada, Laal Maas, Mirchi Tapore, Gatte ki sabzi to Ker Sangri for drool over. If you are not a regular fan for spicy food, avoid eating too much. The spices and fried food can give you a grumpy stomach and act as a spoilsport on your trip.

Like Amer Fort, Hawa Mahal, City Palace, view from nahargarh, Jal mahal, Albert Hall, Patrika Gate and so much more. You would definitely want to capture all the colours that Jaipur has to offer.

7 Truths You Must Know About Jaipur Literature Festival Before It Begins

Here’s the beginning of a new year and Jaipur is set to invite thousands of enthusiasts from all around the globe to tag along the lines of literature. It is the season of Jaipur Literature Festival!

The most awaited, five-day fest woos people from all walks of life to emerge in the most intellectual set up of the city. The air is charged with skills & ideas and colours exude the scene to merge in with the pink of Jaipur.

But let’s call a spade a spade here, not all the flock that gears up for the festival belongs to the house of literati. There are boatful of people who don’t even bother attending sessions and while we’re at it, not every speaker or writer has knowledge enough to claim to fame.

Here’s the truth about JLF:

1.     Rule of the jungle

If you’re not in a typical Kurta, with a not-so-necessary Jhola, a Bindi, which you probably stole from your mother’s collection or those tiring, heavy jhumkis, are you even into literature at all?

What’s more important than being on time for the session is being on point with your attire. Heavy ornaments, thick fake accents and fusion of traditional with contemporary fashion have become the code for JLF.

2.     A selfie sees no time and place

You will easily find people standing in the middle of the way while you’re getting late for the session, clicking selfies oblivious of all the “may I pass?” that come along during the extremely important photo shoot. There’s always a person who will stop anywhere for a perfect selfie.

3.     Save me a seat….oops! too late

It is impossible to find a seat for that one session you decided to attend the minute the schedule was out. Unless you come hours before and attend the sessions before it, just to save that seat, a nice place to sit is unattainable.

4.     Photographers & Bloggers’ paradise

JLF has so many genres that the presence of your favourite one is a definite. Be it fashion, food, decoration, people, art, music and obviously, literature, photographers bloggers will find endless topics to fill their blogs with the most trending stuff out there.

5.     Chance to spot your role model

JLF is a house full of eminent people. It has celebrities for its speakers and guests. There’s a chance that you could catch a glimpse of your role model but there’s also a possibility that that is all their bodyguards will let you see of him/her.

6.     Secretly, we all know it’s ridiculously overpriced

The stalls sell everything at such high prices that all you can do is window shop and pretend that you’ll buy it later. But when you’re starving, unfortunately, you’ll have to pay 250 for a 50 rupee Vada Pav.

jlf-21.jpg

Even after all this, it is the excitement to be a part of the fest that makes everything justifiable. So, this razzle dazzle starts making sense and the wacky getup becomes a new trend and makes people fonder of the festival. It doesn’t matter then to indulge into literature with the likes of those who actually have the understanding of it but indulge equally into the extraordinary ambience that the place gushes.
