The Things that happened in Jaipur in 2019 and we can never forget

The wonderful year 2019 is soon going to get over in a few days. But, before we all step into another eventful year, which will have its own bag of challenges and goodies, let’s have a quick look into the past and take on this ride to cherish so many changes that Jaipur went through in 2019. Hop on..

  1. UNESCO World Heritage SiteUNESCO
Jaipur is a smart city now with all the techno advances in traffic, residences and public places. But what keeps it among the top-notch cities to travel is its heritage character! In the year 2019, the Pink City received its much-deserved title of the “World Heritage Site! Yes, if you missed it let us let you, not just a few monuments but the entire Jaipur is UNESCO World Heritage Site!

2. Congress Government

Congress Gov

Although the swap of government is nothing new to us Jaipurites, this year with the commencement of Lok Sabha elections, the Congress candidate, Mr Ashok Gehlot became the Chief Minister of Jaipur.

3. All-women Gandhi Nagar Railway Station

Gandhi Nagar Railway Station

This became the moment of honour for all of us. In a step towards women empowerment, the Indian Railways have handed over the Gandhi Nagar railway station to an allwomen crew. And, Jaipur’s Gandhi Nagar became the country’s first allwomen railway station. Couldn’t be more proud!

4. Cleanest Railway Station

Cleanest Railway Station

Jaipur Municipal Corporation’s response to Swach Bharat Abhiyaan is not limited to residential, commercial areas or streets but the Railway Stations too took it seriously. To treat single-use plastic, bottle crushing machines have been planted at Jaipur Junction and Gandhinagar Jaipur stations and the staff on duty is always on their toes to keep the railway stations clean. As a result of the management’s hard work and travellers’ co-operation, Jaipur Junction has topped the tally among 720 stations covered all over the country.

5. Friendliest Cities in the World

Friendliest Cities

“Padharo Mhare Des”- we Jaipurites not only say this metaphor but figuratively, live it! With welcoming gestures and warm hospitality, Jaipur wins the hearts of travellers from across the globe. In an international survey, which took place early in the year, the ‘pink cityhas been ranked 35th in the list of 50 cities from all over the world, for being welcoming, “student-friendly”, and “popular on the tourist trail”. Hence, giving you more reasons to travel to Jaipur doubt free 🙂

6. Jaipur rated as most Instagrammed UNESCO World Heritage Site

Most Instagrammed

Our city is known for its old-world charm – usually referred to as ‘pink city’ owing to its iconic colour of buildings. In the year 2019, a new study from The Latin America Travel Company has analyzed that Jaipur is the most popular UNESCO Sites according to Instagram. We were not surprised. With a gamut of mesmerizing monuments, spellbinding palaces and intriguing streets, Jaipur would always be on the insta feeds of many!

7. City Palace opens Gudliya Suite for tourists

City Palace Gudliya Suite

For the first time, Jaipur’s City Palace- the abode of the Royals, opened the doors of its exclusive suite for the connoisseurs of luxury in 2019! The palatial one-bedroom, one-bathroom suite—located in one of the private sections of the 300 years old palace can now make your dream of living in a royal palace come true.

Dravyavati River

Jaipur got its long lost artificial river, Dravyavati river that was inaugurated in October with three mega parks which gave Jaipurites a new hub for adventure and fitness activities. 2019 bought another feather in Jaipur’s cap when Dravyavati River Front was felicitated with the ‘Best Smart Wastewater Project Award’ at Smart City Empowering India Awards.

9. The wave of Clubbing Culture

Until last year, Jaipur did not have a very sound and vibrant nightlife like Berlin or Barcelona but the year 2019 gave us party hoppers all the good reasons to rejoice! With the entry of sensational nightlife check-ins like Playboy and Club Trove, Jaipurites have got more reasons to don their swanky clothes and hit the dance floor!

10. Forever 21

Forever21

The month of Love, “February” showered us with Los Angeles’ high street fashion through the launch of Forever 21 store at WTP! Although Jaipur is the Paris of India when it comes to shopping, but hey, Forever 21 is not just another brand, it is a statement. After the launch, we can think the colours of spring in Los Angeles California, think pastels, high waist trousers coupled with linen shirts and dresses with palm leaves printed on them.  Yayy!!

11. Nykaa

nykaa

Nykaa has definitely made our lives easier with amazing discounts on different cosmetic brands, at one place. And when Jaipur got its very own Nykaa outlet, the girls in here couldn’t resist being super excited. So, the year 2019 has been a landmark year for all the fashion and style enthusiasts when the girls can stop tapping their phones and get the real feel of shopping cosmetics from Nykaa!

12. Sephora

Sephora

Adding another destination to purchase premium make-up and skincare products, the revolutionary French make-up brand took the flight to Jaipur in 2019! Did you miss the launch when attractive Sephora dance troops, awe-struck the spectators with their amazing moves? The world’s largest and best beauty retailer’s flagship store was inaugurated by Rajsamand MP, Princess Diya Kumari at World Trade Park. Engulf In The Five F’s Of Navratri

Navratri Sthapna marks the beginning of the festive season and for the next month or so, it is all about food, festivity, faith, fasting and a lot of fun! Navratri brings a new zeal with itself and there is a wave of new beginnings all around.

Jaipur Beat brings you the five F’s of this beautiful season of love, happiness, colours and light.

  1. Faith– The first and foremost thing that Navratri is about- Maa Durga’s love and blessings. The elaborate ‘puja’ and ‘havan’ during the Navratras cannot be forgotten. Moreover, it’s that time of the year when we finally start visiting the temples quite often due to Navratri. Visiting Amer’s Shila Mata temple is the most important #ThingsToDO which every Jaipurite tries to achieve ditching the tight schedule.

navratri-5

  1. Fasting- It’s the first question we ask – Are you on fast? That’s the most important part of Navratri. Some do it for faith, some to meet out their weight loss goals, and some do it for de-toxication but some like us are always after the best Falahaari delights. No matter the reason, we all believe in fasting and choose to instil some healthy eating habits during these nine days of Navratri.

 falahaar.jpg

  1. Food– Even though Navratri is about fasting, yet food is the constant love. We always find substitutes for what we cannot eat during Navratras. From fruit- chaat to Saabudana Khichdi and Kuttu Ki Puri we keep all the sweet to salty options at hand. And for those who are not fasting, festive season brings a new enthusiasm for the same old spicy food.

navratri thali

  1. Festivity- There is an air of festive mood in the weather with all the festive discounts, shopping spree, family functions and wedding functions lining up. You can see light and decorations wherever you turn your head.

 IMG_9658

  1. Fashion- Last but not least, fashion always makes the place for itself when it comes to the festivity. We have all tip-topped ourselves with glittery Gujarati or Rajasthani lehengas and Angrakhas some time or the other for the epic Garba and Dandiya night or even taking out our traditional Indian outfits.

The best time of the year is right here. Let’s enjoy it to the most!

Wishing you all a very Happy Navratri ! 🙂

The Zeal of Eid-Ul-Fitr In Jaipur

With the Ramadan heading to an end, you can smell the festivities in the air marking the arrival of the festival of Eid. Jaipur is all set to host yet another festival, this time its  Eid-ul-Fitr commonly known as the Meethi Eid, it is celebrated worldwide by the Muslim community.

With Eid just a few hours away, the surge of excitement can be seen among the Jaipurites. The hearts are filled with excitement and souls with devotion. Though people all around the city are more than excited, the real zeal of the festival is observed in the walled city, specially in the area of Ramganj.

The market these days are remarkably crowded. Every alley is filled with shoppers and every mosque in the city by devotees. Ramganj during the month of Ramadan becomes a flea market like none other. The shops welcome their customer right after the Iftar, the meal eaten after the sunrise ending the day-long fast and the alleys then witness people coming in for the entire night till sehari, the meal that is eaten before the dawn. The markets of Ramganj just before Eid are flooded with people like none other. Clothes, accessories, food just think of anything and you will find it at Ramganj during the night. The entire locality seems to shift to a nocturnal schedule for a month.

Chaand Rat

The festival is one of the most joyous occasions celebrated by Muslims. On the supposed last day of Ramadan, people are seen eagerly trying to spot the little crescent moon in the vast sky.  With the sighting of the crescent moon on the last day of Ramadan, it is confirmed that the holy month of fasting has ended. The night of sighting of the moon is known as the Chaand Rat.

Eid ki Namaz

picsart_05-25-08-12

On Eid, the Jama Masjid of Jaipur along with all the other mosques of the city hosts a special namaz for Eid where every male member of each family come and offer their prayers and gratitude to the almighty Allah. The women of the house offer their namaz from home itself.

Sewaiyon wali Eid

Sewai

At the very day of Eid, when you enter a muslim household, a delightfully sweet aroma hits your nose, women in every house put all their heart in and prepare different dishes out of which the most astonishing is sewaiyan , a sweet dish made with milk. The milk is cooked for hours to give it an extremely thick texture and noodle like sewayian are added to it with a lot a significant amount of dry fruits, specially Chuaras  (dried dates) to give the sweet dish a colour and ghee giving it a rich texture. The sweet dish is especially associated with Eid-ul-fitr and is loved by almost everyone.

For children, Eid is even more joyous for they get their Eidi, gifts given to almost everyone in the family by anyone who is older than them. It is mostly some amount of money and other forms of gifts.

Eid is a symbol of oneness for people keeping aside their grudges and differences, meet and greet each other whole heartedly.

Eid Mubarak!

11 Things To Not Forget While Travelling To Jaipur

Jaipur….Naam to suna hoga 🙂 The capital of Rajasthan and the largest Indian State- Jaipur is the land of vibrant colors,  marvellous architectures, monuments and palaces. With so much written and seen about this place in history pages and in movies most people think, they know everything about Jaipur City

galta-gate.jpg

But let us tell you, many times, they are mistaken, absolutely and entirely. Let’s see Pink City from a little different perspective through the eyes of Jaipur Beat.

  1. Everyone does not speak Marwari or English. Majority speaks Hindi

marwari

As soon as you enter the Pink City, don’t assume that everyone here will greet you with Marwari or English. Majority of the people here are Hindi speaking, so it is better if you speak to them in Hindi. (If you know)

  1. Don’t feel pressured by honking or traffic

badi-chaupar-long.jpg

While commuting in Jaipur, be ready to face someone overtaking you from left, crossing red lights, over speeding or honking without any reason. Be prepared because there are no drills to deal with it. Avoid driving on your own instead hire a cab or an auto.

  1. Buy liquor before 8 p.m.

Don’t assume that Jaipur is a city with no party culture. We do party and prepare for that in advance as in Jaipur, liquor shops close sharp at 8 p.m. Don’t forget to stock all your liquor before 8 p.m.

  1. Don’t litter

swachh-bharat.jpg

Jaipurites are trying hard to fight this habit of littering around. So dare you to think of littering Jaipur, because ‘Swachhta Song’ is our daily alarm. So, don’t even dare to mess with the cleanliness of the city.

  1. Fashion is great but dress according to the weather

We have the liberty of enjoying each and every weather. The temperature is extremely hot in summers, humid in monsoon and chilly in winters. Don’t just pack your bags thinking you are going to desert state of Rajasthan which is famous for its deadly summers.

  1. Authentic food is too spicy

laal-maas.jpg

We can imagine your love for authentic food but, don’t forget that the authentic spicy food, be it Laal Maans or Pyaaz Ki Kachori, Mirchi Bada or street side Gol gappas, will get you burning stomach pains. Beware guys else carry your antacid!

  1. Take the flavours of both new and old city

Have planned your city tour on the basis of heritage monuments, gates and other historical points and city bazaars? Change it now, don’t miss to see the new gate of Jawahar circle or WTP or take a metro ride to experience Pink City from newer perspective.

  1. Live the day but don’t miss the nightlife

amer-at-night.jpg

Elephant ride to Amer or Light and Sound show? Albert Hall in the daytime to enjoy the sight with multitudes of pigeon flying or at night with mesmerising royal glory? Some choices are difficult to make. Jaipur is one off city which is to be visited for its beauty in the daytime as well as at night. So, don’t miss it and spend at least one night in the city.

  1. Extra cash and ATM cards

Sab Kuch to sab jagah milta hai but when you’re in Jaipur you will get stuff which is not easily available in your city. The busy market streets from handmade to flagship stores makes this place as one of the best places on earth to shop. Don’t regret later that you’re not carrying enough cash to splurge.

  1. Dal Baati is not our staple

dal baati churma.jpg

Like any other traveller, even a Jaipurite eats Dal Baati occasionally. It’s not our staple food. We too survive on dal roti 🙂

  1. People here are humble

Last but not the least, the people that you meet in Jaipur are humble and always ready to help. You are entering the city which is filled with sweetness and modesty.
