Winter Is Coming!

Hello Fellas! Good is finally happening to us – the winters are almost here (sigh) and we’re finally going to get a break from the heat, even though it has not exactly been as terrible as before. There are lots of reasons to look forward to this season’s winter like school holidays, timely leaves from office, cosy nights but here’s a list of the most important things that we believe everyone gets excited about the most:

  1. Silk

Yes, yes, yes! We finally get to adorn silk sarees and shirts without drenching in our sweat and especially now, considering that the wedding season has just begun – it is the perfect time to flaunt, lads.

Time to say bye-bye cotton!

  1. Gajar ka Halwa

The Ma-ke-haath-ka Gajar ka Halwa is heaven. The beautiful amalgamation of milk, sugar, delicious carrots topped with crunchy almonds is the best thing god ever invented.

Drooling already? Same.

  1. Sunbathing

Okay, we know we said we need a break from the heat – but the feeling of sitting under the winter sun is totally different. Sitting on your terrace in the afternoon, eating guava or radish and just absorbing the rays is so so so satisfying.

  1. Peanuts

Eating roasted peanuts with family is a childhood memory that can only be re-lived during this time of the year, when hundreds of vendors are going to come down the street to sell peanuts. 90s kids would understand the nostalgic feeling of their father getting peanuts wrapped in newspaper, only to eat with Gud.

  1. Eggs

While eggs are super-duper tasty, they are extremely beneficial during low temperatures. They contain vitamin D which is essential for the body especially because the sun rays are weak.

So, no need to come up with bahanas to eat eggs now! 😜

  1. Coconut Oil

Damaged hair knows the real pain here –  thankfully we can apply coconut oil now & condition our hair, and skin (yay). Plus, who doesn’t always cherish a good warm oil massage? 😉

  1. Festivals

This time of the year, many festivals like Jaipur Literature Festival, Jaipur Jewellery Show and obviously the on-going Pushkar Fair, to name a few, begin. There’s madness, fun and celebration of culture, food and knowledge which is extremely exciting.

  1. Weddings

Gathering with your friends and family after a long time and having a good time is what we all wait for. A wedding in India is filled with lots of emotions – where you celebrate, cry, laugh, probably feel lonely (😂) because you’re still unmarried (just kidding!) and feel blessed. There’s truly nothing like it!

  1. Boots

Wearing boots and feeling like you own the world is another thing about winters – the only thing disappointing is that you wished it snowed and you got to wear boots often. All the fashion prodigies would agree, eh?

Looks like we’ve covered the list!

But let us know your favourite part about winters, that you think we’ve missed, in the comment section below! 😁

The Gajak Guide For You Crazies, Who, Just Like Us, Had No Idea Which One’s Which.

Winter in Jaipur is usually synonyms with loads of gajak on all those cold nights. And gajak love, for every jaipurite, is undeniably strong. But, I guess we have all faced this nightmare when mom sends us to bring some gajak, and the confusion just over boards our intelligence and wrecks our judgement. Defeated and lost, we come back home empty-handed saying the shop was closed. It doesn’t have to happen ever again, we promise when visiting a gajak shop, just open up this guide and you’re all set.

IMG_7055
Assorted gajaks

It’s a typical categorization after all?

Well, not really. We too felt so, until we went ahead and researched. Well, there a lot more types than we imagined, but you know, they fell more like a parody of the few original types of gajak, so we decided and skipped them, for good.

1 Til– One of the humblest gajaks known to mankind, and it’s better you know there is a til laddu in the options too. So, til, is basically a kind of Superfood, it has enormous benefits to our health and, is tasty, in gajaks to say the least.

IMG_7087
Til Sugar Rewdi

Til’s most know gajak is til papdi Patti. However, it comes in a variety of til gud, til mawa, til gud khasta and what not.

Sweetener– Mawa, Gud, and plain old processed Sugar

Shape– Rolls(rarely), Rewdi, Patti(bar) and Ladoos.

2. Mungfali (peanut)- this gajak’s so popular it has its own name, it’s called chikki. It’s usually made with gud and is also available with a combination of til. It’s so widely popular, we are sure it’s the top-selling item at every gajak shop we came across.

Mungfali Gud gajak (Chikki)

Sweetener– Gud, processed Sugar(rarely)

Shape-Patti(bar), and, you may find it in other shapes too.

3. Son– This one’s borrowed from the iconic son papdi, and yes, its one of those ‘other types’, but, at least, it’s iconic, unlike, chocolate flavored gajak. It’s mostly happened to be made with gud.

Son Sugar gajak

Sweetener– Gud, processed Sugar

Shapes– Patti, Ladoo, and sometimes, Rolls too.

4 Mawa (khoya)Gud mawa and til mawa remains the most common options, but there’s a simple mawa gajak all on its own too.

Sweetener– Gud, and sometimes, processed Sugar is added.

Shape– Patti(bar), Ladoo, and rarely Rolls.

5. Dry fruit– there are a lot of different varieties in dry fruit gajaks, its range includes kaju, pista, and badam gajaks. People have a love-hate relationship with them, but you aren’t short on options anyways, so we leave that up to you.

11 Thoughts That Cross Our Mind While Wearing The First Sweater Of The Season!

Every season brings along a new excitement and zeal with it, and we are extremely excited to welcome the season of bright and dark sweaters, pullovers, scarves, mufflers and what not but at the same time taking out our winter clothes can be quite a pain.

Since the weather is beginning to change in Jaipur and the air is getting colder in mornings and evenings it’s almost the time to sort out our winter wear. Whether we like it we all have these thoughts that cross our minds while trying out the first sweater of the season!

1. Should I sun dry it?

This is the very first thought that comes to our mind when we fish out for the very first winter clothes that were long forgotten and now smell of naphthalene.

2. Have I grown fatter?

The moment of truth when we realize that we have outgrown the last year’s favourite sweater! We try our best to fit into it for one last time!

3. I’ll be missing you whites, but hello there brights!

It’s quite a pain to pack the summer pastel shades, but hey! Winter is all about bright and dark shades! Say bye to shorts and tanks for a while and welcome the bright high- necks and pullovers!

4. Leather jackets

Is it yet too early to be wearing the ever so classy leather jacket?

5. Oh hey there, forgotten friend!

There are always some pretty pullovers and sweaters that we completely forgot about even in the last winter!

6. Is it actually Winter yet?

Would a sweater be too much? Is it that cold yet?  Let’s just carry a shawl for provision!

7. This is perfect only for zero degrees!

Then there is that one jacket that’s perfect for the Ladakh Trip, but definitely not for Jaipur! It’s never going to be that cold here.

8. Too thick- Too thin!

This is a never-ending struggle because we are always in a judgment mode, where one sweater feels too thick, and the other too thin!

9. Sale Sale Sale!

It’s the shopping time again! All Jaipurites wait for the Tibetan Woolen Market and Winter festive sale all year round!

10. Time to take a selfie!

The cute pink blush on your face matched up with a bright sweater always accounts to a good selfie!. Ka-chow!

11. Hola! Winter accessories!

It’s that time of the year again where you can wrap yourself up in bright woollen scarves, mufflers, gloves, and socks to leave a cute pinky blush on your bare nose and cheeks!

Happy Winters 🙂

5 ‘Little Things’ will make you fall In Love with JAIPUR’s Winter!

The most pleasant time of the year is right here when not just the Jaipurites but the tourists from all over the world throng to Pink city.

Let us take you to those little things that make winter one of the favourite seasons for the locals as well as for those who travel to Jaipur.

mornings

The feeling of winter mornings that start with a warm sunlight to afternoon sunbathing with family whilst devouring our favorite moongfali and santara, sipping tea from the corner wala thela, marching out in the most fashionable leather jacket during pleasant evenings and finally getting cozy in the warm blanket as the night falls are few most cherished things that we all enjoy.

Wait. That’s not it. The thought of festivals and vacations at this time of the year makes this period even more special.

Here are the Five little things that make this season more joyful.

  1. Change is all around us

The mundane summers and the long sunny sweltering afternoons no longer deprive us of going outside for a long spell. The weather is just perfect; offering a perfect mix of sun and clouds. The soft morning mist mingling with the early morning light and the little dew drops falling on the leaves give us the most dramatic scape to be witnessed as soon as we leave our beds. Feel it while taking a morning walk at Rambagh Golf club, Central Park, Smriti van or to any other park.

2. The Festival Season

The Pink city has always been synonymous with festivals and colours. The festivals make it worth to experience this season in all its glory. The aura of festivity starts from Diwali celebration in Jaipur when the city is dressed in its beautiful best.

3. Time to Gorge on Season’s Treats

Winter and winter delicacies walk hand in hand. When you’re in Jaipur, nothing compares to the pleasures of indulging in winter delicacies that offer a variety of veg and non-veg choices. From warming yourself on a wintry day with some Garma Garam Doodh Jalebi at Saras Parlour or the piping hot samosas at Shankar, winter months are much awaited to savour Gajak, Ladoos, Bajre ki khichdi, kadhai Ka doodh, Malpue, Dal ke Pakore, Moong Dal Ka halwa and variety of irresistible egg joints. Streets full of amazing winter delicacies make us forget about all our weight loss resolutions.

wedding in jaipur.jpg

The beautiful backdrop of forts and palaces become more pretty when decked up under the open sky in winters. Thus, the wedding planners and pandits are set for the winter wedding packages. Not just those coming for destination weddings, there is always some or the other member of the family who is getting married in winter months allowing us to do a lot of winter shopping and dressing later 😉

5. Atithi Devo Bhava

Last but not least, we love it to have guests at home this season. As this is the best time to take them on a city tour, from climbing up to Amber or Nahargarh to walking on the streets- everything seems so much of fun when compared to doing the same activities in the sweltry and humid harsh summers. So, if you want to visit your family and friends who are in Jaipur, kindly make a note that this is the season when they will happily welcome you.

Aren’t we so fortunate to be able to live in a place where we have this liberty to enjoy all the seasons and can actually see it happen how weather changes slowly and beautifully each day?
